Do you always insult someone for asking a simple question?
Or are you just one of those Linux 57 flavor idiots?

Just about every software company I have ever knows puts out Beta software
for people to use and test so they can get feedback and improve the product
before release. They have never been paid with very few exceptions.

So what is your point?

Pretty good scam, getting people to test software for free. It must save
the software companies billions of dollars in wages. It's amazing how
many fools there are that are willing to work for these scam artists for
free but, then again, look how many fools voted for Bush.

My point is there is no genuine advantage to being genuined by MS, of
course.

If I was buying a piece of software and there were two company's selling
almost the same thing.
And company A only tested there software in-house before release.
And company B released there software for beta testing before final release.
You would have to be foolish not to buy from company B.

Beta testers are volunteers. They know there not going to get paid so what
is your problem?

Beta testers quite often get a free copy of the app they beta tested. Is
Microsoft doing the same for beta testers of Vista? Nope.

I think you would have a very hard time naming a few companies that produce
high end programs that have had open unregistered beta testing and then
given each beta tester a free copy. It just isn't done.

Too bloody many of them - Vista Beta 2 alone went out to something like 2
million or more. That's a heck of a lot of revenue right there for when
Vista goes RTM.

I had similar sentiments over beta Windows 2000 - I thought there should at
least have been a discount - but it just dones't work that way - and,
really, who cares?

I don't. Get an MSDN subscription and you can wallow in Windows.

I know, I was just being a thorn. I had a look at the beta2 of Vista at a
friend's place and it is slow (this on a PC with 2gb of ram) so I expect to
see some good speed improvements before release. That's the extent of my
Vista beta testing and as far as I wish to go with it too.

Calling names for calling names is like slapping yourself in the face.
What's the point?
