Well, you can count me as a troll also! Freddy is one of the most helpful
and polite persons within the Vista news groups. Since you seem to know so
much, why did you even bother coming here for assistance? And, there is
nothing wrong with top posting, especially in a group such as this - saves
a lot of scrolling when one is following a thread! If you don't like it,
go away!

That wasn't written to Freddy, but to someone calling themselves miss.

Wayne,

These are your words from your original post:

"The whole message reads,
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully
recovered."

So, what is it?

First off, thank you Freddy for attempting to help me with this. Now for
the solution. I uninstalled the 7.7 CAT drivers and then installed the 7.2
CAT drivers for Vista. The problem is gone.

Thanks again,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

The problem I am experiencing is a blank display after standby or
hibernation and the display does not respond to a mouse-move or keypress.

Most of the time, the workaround described in KB917332
(<url>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917332</url>), i.e., close the lid,
wait, and then reopen the lid, does not work. However, the times that it has
worked, I see the message that the display driver stopped and has recovered.

KB 923232 (<url>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923232</url>) has a fix for
it, i.e., an updated videoprt.sys driver. Both KBs indicate the problem
occurs on XP (they don't say anything about Vista). Because of this, I don't
want to install the updated videoprt.sys on my computer. I posted a comment
requesting more info to Microsoft, so we'll see what they say about it.

Can you tell me what the CAT drivers are and how to get them? Maybe I can
try that.

Thanks!
Denny

For all those who may be experiencing the same trouble:

I used Windows Update to get today's latest. There was an optional 'Intel
Corporation driver update for Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family'
update I selected, and I think that did the trick! This was NOT part of the
express updates -- I selected it as an optional update.

I have only tried it a few times so far, but my tablet PC's screen now seems
to be working correctly! It now responds after standby and hibernation.
