Hi,

As I think many of you know already, Dell Computers are on their way to
crush a guy who makes web sites. Why? Because his name happens to be
Paul Dell, and his site is consequently http://www.dellwebsites.com/

That Dell Computers don't make web sites at all doesn't worry them a
bit. They just do as most multinational corporations; steam rolling
people as they see fit and using their wealth to do it. They have sued
Paul for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Michael Dell, the founder and chairman of Dell, is personally worth
about USD 18 billion which is more than the GDP of most countries in the
world. Obviously, he couldn't care less if he's ruining the life of Paul
as long as he makes a few extra $.

Please take a close look at the sites below. Read why Paul need help.
Sign the petition. Maybe by a sweater to support him.

Cheers,
Danny

Just to keep things accurate, as far as I understand, Paul is not saying
that they are "ruining his life", just that they are using their size and
power in an unfair way to stop him from using a particular domain name.

Exactly, and it's not right and it's great that people are supporting him.
But his life is certainly not being ruined.

Could be if he loses the case, and has to do bankruptcy to avoid the 450,000
Euros they are asking for....

Ok... I guess that could be ruin, although... I think I'll shut up now. :-)

Let's put it this way - it might not ruin someone's life, but it could suck
alot of the fun out of it for a while....

"Keep things accurate"??????

I don't know about you, Patty. But my life would certainly be ruined if
I woke up one day with a debt of several hundred thousand dollars. I
don't think anyone need much imagination to realize the consequences
this will have for Paul - or for anyone else for that matter.

Whether the fact that he will just keep enough to survive and will be
forced to send Dell the rest of his earnings, probably as long as he
lives, is "ruining his life" or just "destroying his life a bit" is a
matter of semantics. And at this point, a discussion like that is pretty
superfluous.

I don't disagree, but I do disagree with the OP when he says:

This kind of attitude makes me sick. I'm not sure why people are so
quick to make a villain out of anyone who is successful. Why does it
follow that because Michael Dell is worth a lot of money that he must
be greedy and uncaring?

Sorry, I didn't see this complete withdrawal when I posted the other reply.
Good you see that I perhaps wasn't exaggerating.
Please, go sign the petition, buy a t-shirt and send him a few dollars.
Please...?

Jim,

First off, I believe we can be pretty sure that Michael Dell is well
aware of the case.

All he has to do is to say "stop", and it would stop. But I can actually
understand if he want this tried in a court to see if Paul actually is
breaking some law or regulation. He could do that without intimidating
Paul with a law suit of that magnitude. He could sue Paul for a symbolic
sum of USD 1.00.

Why doesn't he do that? Because he is sanctioning the method of scaring
Paul into handing over the domain. To me, that's greed and what villains
do. The difference is that when "real" criminals are threatening people
into handing over their possessions, the former will be prosecuted.
Michael Dell won't.

So, while I certainly don't mind successful people at all, I despise
people who are bullying others, whether it's by physical or financial
strength. In this case, that's what Michael Dell does. IMHO, of course.

So, please give Paul a hand. Don't make my opinions and poor diplomatic
skills rub off on him. He's in desperate need of support. Money, of
course, but even your signature at the petition.

Cheers,
D

Well, I do try to donate to charities regularly, but next on my list is a
hospital in Haiti which takes care of thousands of malnourished people with
malaria and tuberculosis. I'm going to give what I can spare to them.

I agree. I doubt that Michael Dell even knows about this tiny pebble in the
road....

Oh, he knows, Murray. The past months, Dell has sued a number of domain
owners and squatters. The order to do this has come from somewhere, and
in Dell as in any other company, legal issues are always closely
monitored by the top dogs. It's not a "tiny pebble" at all, perhaps a
pebble, but one that can grow.

Well, frankly, I doubt that he knows. After all, it's an insignificant
'threat' and the potential expenditure on his part is chum change to the
corporation. You know any CEO's?

Actually, the French courts are much more likely to keep it in, I think -
their courts (as I understand it) are heavily pro-business. But, there is
no doubt that the suit alleges something that has not in fact happened....

Sorry you are having this problem.

However, posting it in a FrontPage newsgroup is not appropriate.

For some reason, I see the French court as throwing out this case.
