I have windows XP home. IS there anyway to delete
redundant users. I have deleted the accounts from 'user
accounts' in control panel. But they are still there in
the background and can still be used to log on. Is there
a way to delete then completely?

Hi

You have to delete User Accounts via Control Panel>User Account. If deleted
there, the Accounts are gone and can't accessed.

I have deleted them via user accounts....they are still
accessible to log on...and still accessible as users for
other application configurations (ie ActiveHTML)

They do not appear on the Welcome screen, but if you do
not use the welcome screen, but type in the user name and
password, then the users still exist.....

Have you tried to locate the users via the user tab under Computer Management? Look to see if they are still listed either within that tab or as a member of a group. Once their names are fully removed, the log-in should be disabled.

There is no 'user' tab....is it available in XP home?

no 'local users and groups' in my computer management control panel....am I
missing something?

Yes. Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management,
Local users and Groups. If you expand that, you should see two folders; One
for Users and another for Groups. All users should be listed under Users.
I believe that Home Edition has both ways to add or remove users.

To Ben Dumb

Another long thread that is a complete waste of space. Say what you are doing or stop clogging up these groups with hypothetical and unknowable (except for you) questions.

WHAT F*CKING USER ACCOUNTS are you talking about?

To Ms Thick
Include all previous text.

There is a chance that even though the user accounts have been deleted, for whatever reason the profiles were not deleted, thus allowing said users to log on with a cached acount
Head into
C:\Documents and settings
and see if there are any folders in there that resemble the names of the people you deleted. If so, delete those folders and that should take care of your issue
Also, if you right click on my computer, and head to manage thatll bring up the admiinistrative tools window. Look for "Local users and groups" and hit the + sign to bring the menu down, cruise into users and see if any of those accounts are stilll there, from here you should be able to delete and edit how you see fit

There's a chance, there's a chance, there's a chance.

Hard and fast facts are a lot better. Then he'll get answers to his question rather than everyone else here guessing. I'm thinking he's tring to delete inbuilt accounts. The User Accounts applet isn't one. It is an interface to a limited and controlled view of user accounts. Just because something isn't there doesn't mean it's deleted.

It's just lazyness of a selfish person not to say EXACTLY what his problem is. He is clogging up this group with worthless posts, he is wasting others time, he is evil.

Then quit posting stupid responses. Quite simple.

Stop wasting time with posting misleading questions. If scum like you don't want to state your problem then F*CK OFF. I'm always amazed at how sub humans won't state their problem.

Thanks for your friendly and gracious help!

I do not have 'local users and groups' in the computer management console -
which maybe part of the problem?

Instead of throwing abuse around, why don't you avail me of your wisdom. Or
do you just post abuse to disguise the fact that you don't actually have an
answer?

You are really thick aren't you.

You refuse to give any information. I don't even know what you are talking about. Everyone who has answered you is guessing at what you mean. I don't guess because I am really tired of people asking questions without supplying information.

So stop clogging up the group with pointless drivel or ask the exact question you want an answer too.

I did, but I will repeat myself for the hard of hearing.

I have a couple of users (2) that I have created and deleted using "Control
Panel >> User Accounts"

They now no longer appear as users in User Accounts, or on the welcome
screen at windows logon. However, they can still be used to logon if you
make users type in a username (instead of the welcome screen.) I can also
access them from ActiveHTML configuration console that I have running. So
clearly the users still exist.

I have been advised to remove them using the computer management console,
but I do not have 'Local Users and Groups' section in this console.

How do I remove them? I am running XP home.

You still won't do it will you.

Type control userpasswords2 in Start Run and don't post back unless you want to say exactly what you are doing. That includes names and other things, exactly how you did it. As I said before that is not USER ACCOUNTS.

Nor is the welcome screen a log in thing (it tries to log in with a blank password to see if you need one) it passes it to the logon dialog which you don't see if you are using the welcome screen.
