Defragment

defrag.exe probably needs to be run from a command prompt.

give Auslogics Disk Defrag a look see.
FREE and works on xp and vista both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I also read in the help and support that there is a defag.exe that can be
used. I would like this becasue the current program is not very informative,
so I wanted another one. However, when I typed 'defrag.exe' in the command
prompt, a new window appeared and then disappeared half a second later. Could
I have help in this matter? Thanks.
 
Type cmd in the search box above the Start Orb, at the cmd.exe entry at the top,
right click and select "Run as Administrator" then type defrag.exe or defrag.exe
/? to see the options.
 
I put my laptop to defrag last night. As I woke up to see the results, it was
still defragmenting. I though, well OK, I must have a mess in there. I left
to work for another 5 hours. When I came back it was still defragmenting. I'm
no computer gig, but there's got to be something basically wrong about the
usability of this defragmenter. The average user feels like: "maybe I should
wait another couple of days" or "maybe the energy saving features of the
laptop is stoping it all alone", or "maybe there is something wrong with my
brand new machine" or yet "maybe I should read and learn more" ... but the
fact is that the little box called Windows Defragmenter keeps us on a "maybe"
state. I don't care much about the UI, but please, something that gives us an
indication of what is happening and for how long is simply basic for long
processes.

From the explanations I read, It all SOUDS like it's a very good thing
(thoughtful engineering), but it certainly doesn't LOOK that way and we are
left to TRUST that everything is going to be fine. In my case, I canceled. I
couldn't trust no longer and I went after a third party feature that presents
some kind of feedback. Should I have left for even longer than 17 hours? How
am I suppose to know?
