Decent Waterproof?

No idea at all Mr Feckit, and as I said, want to look and try on all makes first, Barbour is just one option :)

Covent garden eh? 4 train stops and a short walk from me.

Bet they don't sell 'em in Camden Market though ;)

Well not the real ones anyway!:p
I remember in the crazy 80's Barbour jackets were the big thing for the city wizz-kids.
Most had them as a fashion statement & the fact that they could afford them.

The reason I bought a Barbour was a) to look ultra smart and up market for my new business Bloodaxe Tours (the Yanks loved the Barbour) and b) to stick it to the posh gits.
I bought my Barbour in 1978 and retired it for use as a working coat in 1992 and it finally bit the dust in 1994.
It was a very good coat and was used daily in all sorts of conditions. I had the Barbour Fleece liner that fitted in with brass press studs for winter use. The brass double opening zip never let me down once.In winter in very cold conditions(below zero) the material would stiffen up.A once a year reproof with wax on a hot day kept the rain out.I never once got wet.

The Paramo was in use every day from 1994 to 2008. I never once got wet and I was out in all sorts of weather all year round. It survived me coming of my motorcycle with a couple of tears and some gravell rash patches. Cost me £15 to get Paramore to repair it with two three inch square patches and a couple of smaller patches. A once a year wash with down soap and a cycle in a machine with Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In kept the coat clean and waterproofed.

Barbours are a tad greasy and a bit stiff. They stiffen up even more in cold weather. They are very hard wearing.

Paramo's are soft and silent to wear. You can stuff them in rucksacks or bags take them out and give them a shake and they look as good as new.If you pierce them with ,say , thorns they do not loose their waterproofiness like gortex or Barbours.

Happy hunting flops.

:D
