I need a decent waterproof as my 28yr old barbour is now dead!
So do i go down that route again or buy some other brand/style?
Got to be hard wearing & above keep me dry in heavy rain.

Oh and looking up to £200 but would go higher.

So any ideas folks?

after 28 years you gonna try another brand?

I suppose an immersion suit may be an upgrade, not sure about the £200 tho. :)

I would like to go for another barbour and i know they do the job.
And they do do my size (XXL to XXXL) but the one i was looking at not in the colour i want!
But have looked at some jackets at a walking/climbing shop and was impressed.
But will they keep me as dry & last as long?????

Me thinks i should stay with what i know.:thumb:
Or am i trying to be hip & trendy?:o
Could it be the start of my mid-life crisis!

Cheers for the advice folks.:)

.

Older folk seem to do a better job at been hip and trendy so stick with it.

If it was a mid life crisis we would be talking Ferrari's and Veyron's, not Mac's :D

Berghaus always get good reviews... Not that i have any idea whats good or not! :D

I have a Berghaus and it does a great job. I use it when hiking across the moors and it always keeps me dry (and, boy, does it get wet sometimes on the North Yorks Moors). Berghaus waterproof trousers also very good. :)

Another here that uses Berghaus stuff!

Top quality gear that looks good too!

ok no surprise going to buy another barbour at the end of the month.
did look at others but decided to go with what i know.
hope it's still raining when i get it!:p

bought my new barbour on friday and got 10% in the shops summer sale.:thumb:
not the colour i wanted but it's ok & will do the job.:D
now just need it to rain, well that will not be hard!

Are you going to give us a twirl...? ;) Hopefully, your new waterproof purchase will ensure some hot, sunny weather for a few weeks. (When I bought new sandals several weeks ago, it was a cue for the heavens to open.)

Was thinking about getting myself a waterproof coat/trouser combo.

After looking at all suggestions here (four of 'em) I very much favour the Paramo, seems to win hands down to me. And the Berghaus trousers look good.

I know Barbour are good, I notice all the landed gentry and Hoorays wear Barbour and I've known folk who wear their stuff and it's good. I rather like the Barbour olive/khaki classic.

But that Paramo looks very good indeed. The green one, methinks.

My last barbour lasted 25yrs & when i bought it really did have a hard working life.
I have had other makes of waxed jackets, but barbour are the best.
And sorry about asking for rain TC, i just want to wear my new jacket!

No worries - actually, the darned sandals are a complete disappointment. They squeak horribly (sound as if I'm walking on whoopee cushions!!)

Glad you're so pleased with your jacket though, I'm sure you'll get an opportunity to wear it very soon. :)

Just wondering which other makes you've tried Mr F, as stating 'Barbour are best' is a pretty bold statement if they haven't been compared to some others, such as Paramo.

As ever, Mr Flops is open to suggestions, doesn't chase brand loyalty and only seeks what is :)

Looked at Berghaus, Mountain Equipment & others at Cotswold Camping.
I spoke to my big sister who does some serious walking/hiking for advice too.
As i had been happy with Barbour for 25yrs and i knew from past experience of white-out on Dartmoor they do the job & you pay for good kit, went with the brand i knew. I have had other wax jackets over the years for work & none lasted more than a few years. So that's the reason behind the purchase.

Yes some may go for a gortex jacket, but it's what your happy with & it's an individual thing.:thumb:

Thanks for reply feckit, as I said, I'm always open to suggestions and I've always been rather fond of Barbour. But that Paramo does look very good, particularly the venting and the facial protection. I suppose the only thing to do is go and have a looksee. So, for Barbour, Mayfair here I come ;)
