I agree, *nobody* builds toasters like Intel does. I hear Intel has
developed a technology to supplant tiny electric spaceheaters too.
Supposedly, its going to be marketed as "BTX - The spaceheater with the
most BTUs!" ::guffaw::

AMD are a bit of the K-Mart brand, but they are maturing.

Yep, they're currently up to REV. E cores, with Intel trailing a close
second on their "D" cores.

Yes, AMD are maturing. Their dual core market may be something to consider,
but current systems, users should still stick witht he defacto Intel.

Earth calling Phill......

AMD matured when the original Athlon came out (years ago). They've been
more inovative than Intel since then!! It's just people like you who
don't want to acknowledge that truth and are stuck in their ways that
can't see this. Now, I think it's time I built a new Athlon 64 machine.
Intel doesn't even show on the horizon for my CPU selection!!

I see the importance in standards. AMD have to match Intel to remain
business sale-able, so therefore they're chasing the compatibility theme.

I have already studied the AMD X2 and I consider AMD maybe coming to the
market in a better way in the future, but I would warn people if they
consider any other system than AMD new series.

Huh? AMD never followed Intels 'standard' for Rambus memory. Did that
kill them? Nope. Just made Intel look stupid. See, not all of Intels
'standards' are a good thing and AMD had the brains not to follow that
one. Now, get your head out of the sand.

Bwahahahah! You really have lost the plot!

Dell get their CPUs cheap off Intel because they have an exclusive use
agreement. It's nothing to do with how good the CPU is. If you want to
see a particularly poor CPU, then check out the Celeron (which Dell
happen to use). Who makes that? Oh yeah, your baby, Intel!

If AMD is only used by stupid teenagers with chips on their shoulders,
would you care to explain why HP sell their SR1010Z series desktops with
Semprons and Athlon 64s? Also, they do the Proliant DL server that uses
the AMD Opteron. Those are servers that are used by large companies and
government departments. I should know, we use a lot of them in our
company and it's not composed of teenagers! They are rock solid stable
with a much better performance/price ratio than we would ever have got
with an Intel solution!

Oh yeah, and our servers are running linux that doesn't get installed
every five minutes! Another urban myth that you seem to believe, but no
doubt have no experience of. In fact, linux is *sooooo* much more
stable than your beloved XP that it's not even funny. And as for IE....
what a security nightmare! In fact, we don't use it on our work
machines for the simple reason that it is just too dangerous from a
security point of view (yes, we keep all the patches up-to-date, but M$
take to long to supply them). As I said in a different message, get
your head out of the sand before you suffocate!

Stop studying, and start buying. Owning an AMD based system is the only way
to learn. I used to be like you, and considered AMD an also ran. Every
system I own today are AMD based. Intel shot itself in the foot with its P4
1.x ghz CPU's. My P3 @ 1.0 ghz out ran my P4 @ 1.7 ghz. That is when I
purchased my first AMD based motherboard and CPU, it was an AMD XP 1700+
It ran circles around the P4 1.7

I love my AMD 64 3200+ cpu system. It is fast, inexpensive, and runs
Windows 2003 Server x64 with no hassles.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, buy yourself an AMD x64 based system.

Now, as for your trolling, STOP. You do know that this is
alt.comp.hardware.amd.x86-64 newsgroup, right? And as such your pimping
Intel is known as trolling.

Later ...

Dell? They are worst POS systems in the business. NOBODY that has
knowledge about PC's buy Dell. Just like Intel is known as Inhell, Dell is
known as Hell.

Now stop trolling.

I wouldn't buy Intel, in fact I haven't bought one in 7 years, their
upgrade paths sucks!

You gotta be kidding, AMD is spanking Intel in the 64 bit market.
I love it, and love my XP64 3500+ !

AMD is a fountain of youth.

Intel -- oh, well ...

It's quite obvious you know nothing about rocessors, technology, and who is
setting the standards.
