CPU Upgrade

MadX,

I have the same coolor in my PC, never had any trouble with it. It's just a bit of a git to clean. :p

Yeah it does look that way...I had to employ the hands of a small child to plug the 4 pin connector in...The noise difference is amazibng though...

I got one of those in my media machine.

If you think that's quiet, take a listen to a Noctua cooler with a pair of Noctua 120mm fans, makes that one sound like a jumbo jet ;)

The Noctua also cools a lot better.

(And it also costs 3 or 4 times as much...)

I was going to go for the one that was suggested by Wiz earlier in this thread along with the processor. Never got round to doing it though, then me mate called up to say he had this one just as I was about to order the cooler and CPU suggested. Thought about it for a bit an took his one as he gave it to me for nowt. And thought why spend £££'s on a computer that isn't all that really. All I really use it for is crunching and playing with L*nux...I just ordered this CPU suggested by V_R..When that arrives it shall be installed....

Which is why I consider the one I have good enough for my media machine.

For the money it's a fine cooler that does the job, it just doesn't rub shoulders with the elite, is all ;)

A dualie Intel 2.5Ghz for £60.00 inc postage? Bargain :thumb:

I'm not familiar with any temp monitoring programs but there are several freebies.

The reason I'm not familiar with any is because all my three boards are Asus and come with their own temp monitor software.

Ideal CPU temp? Too many factors to quote ideal but a good rule of thumb is 'Anything under 50C at full load is acceptable'.

My AMD Dualie 6400+ 3.2Ghz Black edition is currently running at 43C on idle being cooled by the aforementioned Noctua setup.

It's also the quietest machine I've ever owned.
