I have a PC with a Foxconn 45CMX/45GMX/45CMX-K MOBO...Serial No. ULRM81305921...With a Celeron 430 @1.8 GHz..Socket 775 LGA...With 2 x 1gig DDR2 (PC2-5300) Crucial memory...Currently running Vista...

What I am wanting to do is upgrade the CPU...Any ideas would be most appreciated....

Hiya,

Had a quick look but I cant find that board, can you post a link to it. That board has a very good socket on it so it would be easy upgrading it because the Core 2 Duo use the same socket. What is the FSB of the board? Its just weahter its on its support list of CPUS or not.

Aye, that's the key - the FSB speed.

If the motherboard can support it a Core two duo, say a 6600, is an ideal and economical choice for an upgrade.

Yeah thats what I was thinking to the E6600 is a great CPU, never had any problems with it at all. Hope the board can handle it.

No worries mate, I'll see if I can find a E6600 for good price. Then post it. :) Might not be until later today though.

Right ok, have done some looking around and found a few sites below that sell the E6600.

Cooling if you get another cooler as the one that comes with the CPU is not that good. Note the one from PC Next Day is OEM so no stock fan with that one.

For Cooling I recommend these.

Paste for the CPU

Let me know if this helps.

tbh as good as the E66 is its old now, for that machine i cant see its worth spending 120 quid on a new cpu for it when you could get for example...

E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail

for £69 :)

For cooling, well if your not OCing it then the stock fan is ok.

After searching around, I came to the same conclusion.

If Asus, Gigabyte and DFI boards are the Rolls Royce, Bentley and Lexus's of the motherboard world, then the Foxconn series are Fiat 500's ;)

It is worth upgrading though, I'd go with V_R's suggestion :thumb:

Thanks for the help Wizkid, its most appreciated...

And thanks Flopps and V_R....I shall be going for what V_R has suggested.....I think if I was going to spend £120 + on a CPU, then I might aswell go the whole hog and replace MOBO, but can't quite stretch me wallet that far yet....

No probs mate, glad I could help. Hope the up-grade goes well. :thumb:

Post back if you need anymore help.

Will post some pics up next week...Ginna order a new case and a few other bits and bobs...

I seem to recal that that cpu is a good overclocker. If you get a really good cpu cooler now it will be useful for your next upgrade and let you overclock this cpu with good stable cool results.

A mate of mine bought this from OCUK. He recieved delivery and didn't like the look of it. My standard CPU cooler fan started making noises the other night, so I said thanks very much i'll have it...Just installed it now. lol I remember taking the p*ss out of PSD 99 a while back about wanting things quiet. What a difference, I actually had to look to see if the machine was on as my screen stays black for a a minute before booting up...
Anyway pics below....
