my compac computer was fried,i need to get tax info from it,how do i connect the old
hard drive to new computer?
The first question is whether your Compaq is a desktop
or a laptop. It is easy to swap hard drives between desktops.
If your Compaq is a laptop, you may be able to connect it
directly to a new PC via Internet cable. If this succeeds, the
Compaq hard drive shows in the new PC as another hard drive.
If it fails, your fastest solution would be to take the laptop to a
repair shop and have the whole drive contents transferred
to an external (USB) drive.
If you simply add an old desktop HD to a new desktop, it probably
appears as drive D (if formatted as Primary DOS.) The web site for
your new PC probably has instructions how to fit a "new" hard drive
with a checklist (power off, jumper settings, connecting cables,
power on etc.) If in doubt, consult a web page or library book
about how to build your own PC.
