I wonder if this could be done. Through this NG, I found a really nice FTP
server, Quick 'N' Easy FTP server. I tested it and it seems to work though I
have not tried using it for heavy-duty work.

I am on an ADSL and since my puter is rarely off, I wonder if I could have a
crack at hosting it for a while and others can take turns if they want to.

I just realized the just the Antivirus programs alone are valuable. I have
little stand-alone AV scanners for all but the very latest viruses.

I know it can be work to dig out a working link to an executable with no
help file that you may have found awhile ago.

Can you list the executables you've found with name, one line
description, link if you have it?

That way we can search for a file, as needed.

installed or registred.

Visual Basic Apps are different in my opinion. You can not be sure someone
already has installed the right version of Visual basic Runtime files for an
certain application (I made this mistake with the first VB app I build.
Though mentioned in the manual, I got zillions of questions about not being
able to run the program because they did not have the (right) VB Runtime
files). In other words, IMHO VB apps are not 1 file wonders.

By the way: you can run visual basic files without installing the Visual
Basic Runtime by placing all the files of the Visual Basic Runtime into the
same directory as the main program (works also for dll and ocx files) The
point of this? You can run your VB app from CD without needing to know if
the user has the runtime files installed.

Since I don't use just 1 file wonders I have all the runtime files
installed. I only have to do this once, usually after I format. IMO it's
the same as installing drivers. Something I set and forget.

Not all programs tell you that they need the runtime files. They assume
that you have them. I'm sure that there are some 1 file wonders that I
use that are like this. I just think "Hey cool, Program X does a great
job and it's only 150kb!"

Then there are those programs that would be 1 file wonders if the
programmer assumed that everyone had the runtime files.

Placing the runtime files in a folder on a CD is cool. I have done this
myself.
