To add to this, to run nistimce at start up and then go away.

Create a shortcut to nistime in startup, then in the properties of the
shortcut edit the target path to be "<targetpath> run once"

I actually only run it once a week as a scheduled task. My clock doesn't
drift that much and I can afford to be out a second or two a week. I don't
put things in startup if I can help it as I want the beast to boot as
quickly as possible. I'm still running Win98SE on a PIII/700.

You could also use a handy little tool written by Doug Knox to make Windows
check for the correct time more often.

Change Internet Time Sync Interval v1.1 (8/29/2002)

By default, Windows XP will try to synchronize your computer's time with an
Internet Time Server on a weekly basis. This utility will allow you to
change the interval (frequency) between Internet Time Updates. You can
choose from weekly, daily, hourly or "custom" settings. Download the ZIP
file and extract the contents to your hard drive. The EXE file you
extracted is the program. There is no install/uninstall. A reboot is
required to make the time setting change effective.

Operating System(s): Windows XP. Requires the VB 6 runtime library
(included with Windows XP).

Version 1.1 fixes a bug when more than 9 hours were selected for the update
interval.

Hi DT - I highly recommend NetTime here: http://nettime.sourceforge.net/
The nice thing about it is that it will automatically check 140 or so
servers, find those that are working, pick the "best" five for you, update
your time automatically at your designated interval by comparing all five
and has provision for updating other computers on a local net. Or you can
individually test and select the five to be used from servers around the
world. You can use it to either automatically set the time in your tray or
to do so manually. It is also very easy to add additional server addresses
to the .ini file. I've tried out a number of time set programs over the
years, and this is far-and-away the best.

Nice utility and a *great web page. Thanks!

Say, the reason I use Neutron or Achron is that way I can turn off the XP
time service that normally runs constantly. I'm one of those "minimalists"
that turns off everything I can do without to make my OS faster and more
reliable.

Looking for a good application which can keep my computer clock up to date.

Any ideas please and the best ones available?

As you were told, XP syncs for you. Older OS? Look for Pawclock.
