Agent does mail too.

OK, and I don't know what Robin found out either, at this point, and maybe
she'll test it out a bit further.
Bennett Marco said:I'd bet "Robin" is a he.
Women don't generally use their middle
initial in email addresses ("Robin Clay" <Robin_B DOT Clay AT virgin

Bruce Hagen said:Now if you see the prompt more often that 100 closings, then there is

If you haven't already, see the last reply I made to Robin. It is a known
issue, but up till then, reoccurring prompts were never mentioned by Robin.
Bruce Hagen said:May I ask how often you open and close OE? As I previously stated, the
compact prompt only pops up after 100 closings of OE.

it persistently askes to compact - even just a few minutes after it HAS
compacted !

Then you /do/ have another problem.
The problem is with the registry counter that gives you the prompt after 100
closings of OE. It is being increased quicker than it should be
There is a growing number of programs and actions that may be causing this
after installing SP3.
Do you have any of the following?
IBM Rapid Access keyboard (driver) RAKDLL.DLL
Windows {Desktop} Search
Mailwasher
Nero plug-in(s)
Opening EML files while OE is closed will also contribute to the registry
count.
~~~~~~Various anti-virus, anti-spyware and third party firewalls, especially if
they were running when you installed SP3.
Maybe...
In the case of Windows Desktop Search, (the #1 offender), you have to tell
it to stop indexing OE.
Windows {Desktop} Search. Set Desktop Search Options:
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspx
Control Panel | Indexing Options. Click: Modify
In the option to exclude selected file types from indexing, be sure to add
these file types:
..eml, .dbx & .nws
That's actually where it all started !
See first message in the thread.
Robin Clay said:No ! THAT is the problem wot prompted me to start this thread !
Ah ! Maybe....
I didn't know that.
I don't know...
What exactly is "Windows {Desktop} Search", and how can I tell if I've got
it ?
Sounds worse than swine flu....
That I have done, very occasionally.
~~~~~~
Is that upside down ?
... and NOTHING happens....
No entry for .dbx, but the other two are unchecked.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Part of the challenge is that it's intermittent - it can go for WEEKS
without appearing - and then it will appear every ten minutes or so - EVEN
if
I have accepted the first time.
As it effectively locks up the computer, I'd be quite happy to leave it
running overnight, or when I stop for lunch - but when *I* want to, not
when
*IT* decides !
Bastard.

Robin
Bruce Hagen said:In your first message in the thread, (that you started new), you mentioned
compacting a few folders manually.
The registry counter does not reset to zero unless
you compact Folder.dbx which requires a Compact All Folders.
I guess you found Windows Search? Do you ever use it? If not, remove it.
Robin Clay said:Is that different from the "Windows {Desktop} Search" of which you wrote
earlier ?
What I sometimes use is the "Search" button in Windows Explorer, and the
"Find" button in Outlook Express.
Is either of these what you are referring to ?
Whatever - when I followed your suggestion (above):-
NOTHING happens....
Or perhaps I mean, Nothing SEEMS to happen ;-)
Thank you again for writing.

Robin
Robin said:Me, too.
Does it make a difference to you ?
(I know it does to me, but there y'go...)
guy's name. Well, ok, maybe there is Robin Williams, come to think of it
(if I remember that right). So I guess it could be either a man's or a
woman's name then.
Bruce said:Robin Hood?
LOL. Thanks, that makes another one!

More important, *any* name can be given to anyone, regardless of that
person's sex. It's probably very unusual for there to be women named
Bill, but it's highly likely that there are at least a few. And
speaking about my own name, I've never met a woman named Kenneth, but
I once met one named Kennetha.

Or a man named Sue? YEAH, I'd say *highly* unlikely.
I seriously doubt it - and even moreso for the latter (Sue) - like zero
instances, I bet (except in the Johnny Cash song).
