Hi Melih
I'm interested to try your AV but am confused as to how to download it.
I've gone to your website and have gotten the activation code.
I'm then told to Start the Comodo AV but where?
On going back to your site all of the likely tabs just bring me back to
the page where I download information in order to get another
activation code.
I seem to be going around in a circle.
Please help me out.

I previously installed a version download on 6/19/06. Is this the same
version.?
You said that a new beta was available. The link says nothing about a beta
version. If you want me to try a beta, where is the download location for
the beta?

here it is:
I would like to announce the availability of the CPF 2.3.1.20 BETA for
download at
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download/CPF_Setup_2.3.1.20_BETA.exe

What's New in 2.3.1.20 BETA?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- New! Windows XP Fast User Switching support
- New! File submission to Comodo ("Security->Tasks->Miscellaneous"
interface can be used to submit multiple files to COMODO.)
- New! Popup frequency level(During the installation of CPF, users will
be able to define the frequency of popups, which will affect created
rules),
- Improved! Self defense(protection of self registry keys, more
resistance to process termination attacks)
- Improved! Application monitoring(smarter act as a server handling,
options to skip loopback TCP/UDP)
- Improved! Performace of the firewall is much faster than before(This
improvent solved AVG email scanner issue as well)
- Improved! Memory usage of CmdAgent has been decreased by 3MBs
- Improved! Interoperability of CPF with sandboxing software
- Improved! Default network monitor rules
- Fixed! Bug causing repeating "Signature changed" messages
- Fixed! Bug causing CPF not to remember some popup
- Fixed! Bug causing BSOD if secure boot option is selected

OK, I downloaded and tried out Comodo AV.
However, it scanned extremely slowly on my machine (less than 2 files
per second). Indeed, it was so slow that I did not let it run to
completion and shut it off.
While it was running, it was impossible to do anything else on the
computer due to the dramatic reduction in speed.
Even AFTER shutting Comodo down, the machine was very noticeably
sluggish. This, however, dissappeared after removing Comodo completely
from my computer.
I had a very similar experience with BitDefender (can't remember which
version) on the same machine some months ago.
Nevertheless, I subsequently used BitDefender with great success on a
different computer running on WinMe OS.
Has anybody seen anything similar or, better still, can explain what
happened on my machine?

TIA
Paul

Did you have any other Security software installed?

Did you have any other Security software installed?

Hi Melih
(embarrassed cough) Well, yes I did have AVG and WOC running when I
tried out Comodo.
OK, so I uninstalled AVG and turned off the AV part of WOC and tried
Comodo again.
This time, ALL of the problems I had initially disappeared.
It scanned 170,000 files in just over an hour which is not slow.
As I keep my machine fairly clean, Comodo found no viruses. But, OTOH,
this also means there were no false positives.
On the negative side, although there are buttons available to turn off
both email scanning and automatic updates, pressing either of these
gives an error message and nothing happens. The button to turn off "on
access scanning" (whatever that means) also does not work on my
machine.

My intention had been to just have Comodo available for ocassional
on-demand scans (which I do with quite a few AVs). However, as I can't
turn off email scanning, it has effectively ousted AVG from filling in
this gap in WOCs repertoire.

Based on what I've seen so far, I cannot say whether it is better or
worse than AVG or Avast! or WOC.
However, I've seen enough to encourage me to carry out a longer term
trial.

Just an update on my experience with Comodo AV.
Shortly after downloading Comodo, my computer started to reboot
unexpectedly (total of 14 times over two days) and almost invariably
during file backup scanning.
Various tests I carried out in consultation with the machine OEM
suggested it was a software problem.
So, I uninstalled Comodo and, guess what, the problem disappeared.
Seems there was some kind of fatal incompatibility with something else
on my computer.
Any thoughts, anyone?

Paul;

I ain't got one thought on this. Only a question: What are your
machine's specs & OS's flavor (inc SP's)?

thanks for the update,
-Craig

The AV is still way early in development, so I wouldn't expect much from
it at this point. Perhaps by version 2 it will be ready for some
serious attention..
