In addition to getting a mfr's diagnostic for that drive,
you might visit www.grc.com and take a look at their
"Spinrite" utility. It's helped me out of similar situations
from time to time. Latest version (~$29, immediate download)
handles both FAT and NTFS. Bootable diskette image, direct
operation on drive circuitry and oxide.
