Clone vs. Image

Actually, the verification only checks that all files were included in
the image. It is not a verification that the image will restore
properly, or at all.

O.K.

Scratch That.

It also seems to mirror what Iomega Automatic Backup Pro verification
involves -- just checking the log.

Back to square one.

Trusting something to happen flawlessly -- and yet never actually giving it
the acid test -- is a formula for disaster and disappointment.

Then you're using the wrong product. I use exclusively BootIt-NG, Drive
Image 2002, Ghost 2003, and their predecessors. It is indeed verification
the image will restore properly. With over 1200 restores in more than a
decade, I have had zero failures when an image verified.

Yes, understood.

But that's not a complete drill.

I want to restore and make SURE.

Can't be done without a guinea-pig computer -- an extra one?

No, not at this time.

Most of the programs include an option to test/check/verify/validate the
image. That's a good idea because sometimes the image gets corrupted,
either because the utility messed up or the image file got stepped on
afterward. But if the image verifies, it *will* restore.

Is Acronis a good program and will it do this?

I will always, from now on, test my clone as soon as I make it.

Then why do you use more than one program for Imaging?

No one seems to be using Iomega Automatic Backup Pro.

Are there problems with it?

Depends on what program the client has. I'll make the image in either DI or
Ghost format if that's what program they have a license for. If they buy
Ghost 9/10, I'll use Ghost 2003 because that comes in the same box.
Otherwise, I recommend they purchase Terabyte's BootIt-NG or Image for DOS,
since DI and Ghost 2003 are no longer being developed.
