Choosing a new PC

I've made a decision on the CPU, Ram, Harddisk space and OS but not the Video card. Its going to be q9550, 4gigs ram, 320gigs of storage and Vista Home Premium or Ultimate(wats the difference).
Possible video cards
HD3870x2, 9800gt, 8800gt, 8800gtx.

supposed release date for the 9800gt is next month, i think its worth to wait

It will also push the 8800s to clearount prices.

I love this time in product cycles.

I reckon I'll upgrade my 7900gt to a 8800gt when the price is forced down a bit more :D

sounds like a plan, the only thing i dont fancy about these upgrade cycles is that my SLI rig is going to be moot compared to a single card :(

i dont think i will be going SLI anymore - expensive and useless right now. ah well, it was fun while it lasted :p

You SLi'd with 2x8800gt didn't you?

Sounds like a bit of a beast to me...and was probably cheaper than the new 9800s will be for now.

'Sounds' it the word - you'd think after 4 years of having SLI out, they would have made SLI into a killer. But it hardly improves my fps. Crysis is a good example, i didnt gain any benifit to running two cards (used fraps) even with the patch and beta drivers.

I want to say its cause of my slow CPU, but right now i dont think its a good investment. so im just going to sell my 8800GTs and buy a 9800 , usually when Nvidia brings out a new GPU - that single GPU is faster than the previous generations SLI'ed cards.

Good mid-range gaming card

Hi folks, I just wanted to get you folks opinion on a good game card. I have a custom built computer.
Its has an ASUS motherboard model #P5VDC-MX ver.2.0, with a pentium D cpu @ 3.00Ghz. with 2GB's of RAM. 250GB Hard drive. I want a mid-range gaming card, nothing fancy, just enough to play games. Right now, I have a VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP video card in it. My computer will hold either a AGP or a PCI E 16 Express video card, but I was looking at either a Nvidia 7600, or ATI X600 or X700. Like I said, just enough power to play basic games. Any help or suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.
