My mitsubishi one lasted just past its warranty IIRC, a little over a
year. That's when I got the lite-on one. There are more expensive
writers out there, such as ...hmmm...it's on the tip of my tongue...hold
on, will google for it...
A just remembered: plextor
Then again, there are plenty of generic writers out there, too. They're
only like $35 USD (that's an in-your-head dollar conversion from the
approximately $52 AUD they cost here at a local shop) and if you get one
that dies after 2 years, well, that's bad luck I guess. You take that
chance with any mechanical piece of computer hardware it seems. Look
for warranties beyond the 1 year mark if you're worried about this, or
see if the retailer offers the option to purchase an extended warranty
(but for a product that costs $35 bucks??).
