Been lurking in these parts for quite some time but I thought I would
jump in this thread.
Why do you delete the prefetch files?
IMHO, you should not delete the prefetch file unless you are
experiencing slow boot up time because of a corrupted prefetch file.
Deleting these files will degrade performance for the next 3 boot ups
because XP will take that long to re-create the files in the prefetch
folder.

Also, running the following command should help in rebuilding the
layout.ini file.
rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
