It's an unproven rumor but that does not mean that it is unreasonable
for someone who does not know the whole story to ask about it.

Think about this for a minute. If there are ten billion ATI cards out there
and out of those ten billion cards, five people had their monitor expire due
to old age or manufacturing defects in the monitor, could one or more of
these people assume that the ATI card was at fault?

If there was really a problem, there would be thousands of people posting
here not just a few idiots with a chip on their shoulder for ATI or a few
Nvidiots with a lot of time on their hands.

Where have you been for the past couple of weeks? There was a widely
discussed post a while back in which someone claimed, without proof,
that something like 183 monitors had been destroyed by Catalyst 3.8
drivers, with some bogus but superficially plausible claims
about the mechanism by which it did this.

And out of those 183 alleged incidents...NONE were reported to ATI. Hmmmm!
This received sufficiently widespread circulation that ATI felt
compelled to issue a press release concerning the matter.

If I were a Troll who spread usenet rumors about an Nvidia product, don't
think for a second that Nvidia would not sue me or at the very least issue a
press release. Pretty much common sense.

Why on earth would you suspect that any currently popular graphics card
would damage your monitor - high end or not?

I can think of a few:
1)He has a chip on his shoulders towards ATI.
2)He broke his $600 monitor and wants ATI to pay for it.
3)He is an Nvidia troll who spends all his time in the ATI NG.
4)He has no life.

It isn't very often that someone discredits themselves with sarcastic
ranting as effectively as you've just done this string.
<plonk>

Just to settle the ghost once and for all, since I just threw
down $600 on a P225F ...

Who here *HAS* a viewsonic high end CRT (NOT LCD) monitor (like P220f,
P225f, high end "P" or "G" series), and Catalyst 3.8, and has had no
problems with them? (no strange behaviour, monitor deaths, sync
errors, etc). Please only reply if you REALLY do have one of these
monitors.

If I change to a Radeon 9800 XT (or the successor) from my Ti 4600, I
do NOT want anything to happen to my $600 monitor...not all of us gets
money from parents anymore, you know....

Hi:

WinXP HE SP1/DirectX 9.0b

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro retail
VGA1: ViewSonic P817 21" shadow mask
VGA2: ViewSonic P225f 22" aperture grille
TV OUT: S-video to 36" Sony Wega XBR-400 NTSC

Both CRTs at 1600x1200 32bit 85HZ

I've been running these monitors with the Radeon for a year. I
always upgrade to the latest Catalyst version (now at 3.8) and have
never had a problem. ATI used to have a bad rep for flaky drivers but
they seem to have cleaned up their act.
Previous to this, I was a long-time and spoiled (for 2D
quality/stable drivers) Matrox user. I don't feel I've lost anything
by changing to ATI as far as 2D goes and 3D performance is greatly
improved.
BTW, these recent claims of ATI cards damaging monitors are bogus.

Happy trails,

Oh My!
I managed to piss off another Nvidiot troll.
Im soooo sorry!...not!

*plonk*
And yet another Nvidiot goes to the dumbass filter!

5) He's heard a rumor and he wants to get the facts. And your flaming
anybody who asks the question doesn't serve anything except maybe your
tiny little ego.

Fact is that he is not here for facts.
Fact is that there were zero such incidents reported to ATI.
Fact is that most of these postings are from Nvidiots (who started the rumor
in the first place) and you can't see that.
Good ridance!

*plonk*

Beat you to it dumbass!

*plonk*

Sooner or later I will round up all the troll in this NG and clean it up
once again.

I'm not an nVidiot troll. I own three ATI cards currently in use on
my home network (two PowerColor and one genuine ATI). I also feel
constrained to add that your delivery and attitude is markedly similar
to that of a spiteful and self-indulgent six year old.

You are not helping this group - you are only hindering it.

Be Quiet.

No reply is necessary as it will not be read, at least not by me - my
time is valuable.

Did they tell him to clean his guns today? <chuckle>

Why on earth would you suspect that any currently popular graphics card

Probably the same reason he thinks we all get money from our parents.

Think about this for a minute--some guy who had heard this rumor came
here to find out if it was true. Do you believe that it is unreasonable
for someone who has heard something negative about an ATI product to
come to an ATI newsgroup and ask about it?

Thinks about this for a minute.

Where did the guy say he had heard about the rumor ?

Sounds great.
I just ordered a P225F ; never used a trinitron screen before.
I wonder how it's longevity will be...

Not long at all if you use those nasty monitor killing Catalyst
drivers. ;)

Ever heard of a warranty? No? If it's that old that the warranty is
expired then could the *gasp* Monitor have expired? God No! It cost $600!
It should last forever.

Here are a few suggestions for you dubmass:
1)Go get your new monitor.
2)Get an Nvidia card.

Already have one.
3)Get an extended warranty.

Already have one.
4)Sell your ATI card.

I have an ATI card? Really? Who bought it for me? You ?
5)Get out of the ATI newsgroup (you don't need it anymore)
and finally

Make me. Really. I dare you. You want to try taking that off the
net ? Or you only conjuring those ad hominem remarks from the safety
of your f*cked up room?
How many more stupid kids are there around here, who act just like
you?
I don't wanna.

*PLONK*.

God, I hate stupid no-life teenagers with no friends and no social
skills....(and that includes adults that act like children).

Figures he's more than likely "90% probability" a "barely making it"
high school student...
If I didnt plonk his ass, I would gladly offer to meet him IRL just to
show him how much of a ****up he is. But I'm 32 years old and
engaged, and have no time for teenage net geeks anymore.

Anyway, thanks to the mature people who replied.

Nice,
How the heck did you find room for both huge monitors?
(I assume you're using 1 system?).

I barely have room for my single 22" .... @_@
