I agree it is a bit overcomplicated but I like trying things, a crimp tool would be well worth it because family and friends will want to network if they see it working

You'll find that if you arrange the different cores to slot into the plug (after stripping insulation off) you can push 'em in in one go.

Quick visual check, apply crimp tool..... done. And don't forget to slide the shroud onto the cable first ;)

Why don't you hang on to the xover cable, which you can use for testing if the router stops working?

Hi covenant,
Have used the crossover cable to make up two patch leads and the remainder will be used to wire two rj45 sockets. The cheap crimper would not strip outer insulation on cable without nicking the at least one core, but this is easily done with craft knife. Otherwise it trimmed the cores and crimped plugs fine.
