Most of the 'problems' people report are due to their lack of understanding on
how to properly install them correctly. Or flakey systems that are not
configured right.

Pluvious

BS.

BS, for sure.

Those drivers are a piece of steamed shit.

I disagree with you. to quote the group WAR "I've been around for a long
long time"

I know's how to install and uninstall the ATI drivers and they are in a MAD
rush to put out game FIXES and leaving the high end crowd hanging.

yes this last release seems to be the most stable SINCE I put this 9700pro
AIW in this machine and put the old 8500DV on my son's

but next time it will be the HApague (sorry name is wrong) and the wintv350
it has good software and drivers is stable and it' s got a way to record
shows via a TIMER something ATI seem to not understand

Maybe, but thats such a simplistic statement. I definitely know how to
configure a system, still, I find driver releases differing on my various
systems.

Uh... No. But thanks for the pompous post. Being able to properly install
and uninstall drivers is almost a prerequisite to posting in this NG. Sure
some people are clueless... but definitely not the majority of those who
post issues they've found (not questions on how to turn on AA and such). The
drivers have issues. Deal with it and leave your superiority complex at the
door please.

Thanks for your cooperation

Actually... No, I haven't.

You know it really disturbs me that there is such an inconsistency between
various people's experiences with CAT drivers. I love the 9800 Pro's
hardware, and when it's being driven correctly it flys... however, the CAT
drivers, whether it be 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, whatever... do not compare to the
detonator drivers in terms of quality, consistency, and ease of use.

God damn it ATI, get your act together and leverage your powerful hardware
with some decent drivers. And next time... FIX more things than you BREAK
with a CAT release :(

that

Maybe if ATI were to "leak" the drivers before they where released, the way
Nvidia do, then more "glitches" would be found. I swear it is the "leaking"
that makes Detonator Drivers so reliable on release because they are tested
on many more systems and games than Nvidia themselves would be able to.

Yea, that is true but if you don't play many games then you are not
qualified to be in this thread. Move along.

Apologies for using my computer for graphics design, 3d animation,
traditional animation, sound composition AND a few games.

I guess Im not geek enough due to the fact that I only play Quake 2 and 3,
Unreal Tournament, Sacrifice and Max Payne all the time?

ppppft. Trust me guy, being an ATi advocate I'd be the first to complain if
a driver release screwed up my computer in any way shape or form.

Thing is, I have *never* had a problem with ATi and neither has anyone else
I know. Then again, all of the people I know realize that if there is a
graphics problem there are other avenues to troubleshoot before jumping on
the "ATi's drivers suck" bandwagon. It may be the driver but, then again, it
may not. You check to make sure you have properly removed every trace of the
old driver first? Like going into the Windoze registry and clearing that
out? XP is famous for not allowing a clean uninstall of drivers. Check your
DirectX ... mebbe a clean out of the vid drivers AND a fresh re-install of
DX would help. Check your Hardware accelleration. Maybe even change the
settings in your games - you dont really need AF and FF cranked to play your
flight sim do ya? Hell, check your motherboards AGP drivers too.

If all this fails, go back to the dirvers that worked. ATi even states on
their Catalyst download page: "Install only if you are experiencing problems
with your existing graphics driver".

hmmmmmmmmmmm.

you should be using a Fire gl not some gaming card.......I find the average 'Raved' about cards do jack for animation and 3D...
video editing with them is very good however..

very true.....not releasing 'betas' is not a good idea...I'm not sure why they don't, there must be something, maybe not giving
Omegas a chance to out do them.......although I haven't seen that happen yet...

I've seen this, and especially the overclcocking newsgroups, go all to hell
as newbies have become aware of them. Your rationalizing in that respect is
very inaccurate.

man, if I could afford a FireGL card I would get one in a heartbeat ... for
the time being however, I just have to be patient while my 3d animations
render painfully slow. I do like the games I play and I hear that FireGL
cards dont play games very well as they are designed to make the games etc.

In a perfect world I'd have a good box for my gaming and vid editing and a
box for my 3d work.
video editing with them is very good however.

Agreed on this. Premiere runs like a dream with my Radeon.
