AFAIK, there should never be a HOSTS file in
c:\windows\system32\drivers
You may delete that one. (How did it get there?)

BTS,

IIRC, my WinXP HE SP2 box shipped with a HOSTS file in c:\windows\system32\drivers. The file consisted of several lines of comments by MS, and then the single entry:

127.0.0.1 localhost

I didn't keep the original HOSTS file because I felt competent enough to re-create it. But then again ... <g>

Ron :)

Was that file named HOSTS (no extension), or perhaps HOSTS.SAM or maybe
LMHOSTS.SAM? I had those here with Win2K. But as I recall, they were all
in the \etc directory.

Same here. :-)

Netscapes days are done, as was IExplorer a couple of years ago.

DS,

So are Mozilla's:

Switch to Firefox/Thunderbird or SeaMonkey.

If you prefer to wait, the official release of SeaMonkey should be soon, as it is still in Alpha.

BTW, I know a lot of people who use and like Opera, including me, but I know very few who use its email/NNTP client.

Ron :)
