I received a message cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open outlook
window. I think that I have to create a new profile which I can do but how do
I import all of my emails and contacts from the previous profile?

Thanks!

A new profile maynot be the cure, nor do you in any case import old mail.
What version of Outlook?
What size is the data file?
Have you run either Office Diagnostics or Detect/Repair? - depending on OL
version
Have you run scanpst.exe against your data file?
Have you tried starting Outlook using the safe switch?
Questions,questions

I am not a very techy person and do not know how to do or find out any of the
things that you asked. I thought about starting in safe mode but I don't even
know how to do that. I am great at following instructions though!!!

I do know that it is Outlook 2007

I got the page to try to fix the problem without creating a new profile. I
found the scanpst icon but when I click on it I am not sure what to enter for
the file that I want to scan?????

I figured out how to start in safe mode but it still says that it cannot open
the window.

You'll have to point it to the location where your pst-file is stored.
You can look this up via Control Panel-> Mail-> button Data Files...

To open Outlook in Safe Mode;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

On Windows Vista;
Start-> type; outlook.exe /safe

It's likely that the pst-file is damaged. Run scanpst.exe against your
pst-file to check it for errors.
Also, how big is your pst-file>

I found the scanpst file but when I click on it, it says "Enter the name of
the file that you want to scan"...what do I enter there?

You are probably sick of me!!!

How do I do that? I am not very technical!!!

CLick Start>Run and enter

outlook.exe /resetnavpane

in the Open field. Be sure to include the space. Click OK.

OH MY I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! Now, do I have to do this everytime I open Outlook or
is there something I can do now to fix the problem?

You should need to do that only once. It appears that a recent update damaged
the XML file that controls the appearance of the Navigation Pane. Starting
Outlook with that switch regenerates the file.
