Cannot access internet after sleep mode

This sounds exactly like what I am working through. I bought my wife a new
Toshiba with Vista and every time she came out of standby she has to
disconnect and reconnect the wireless. I thought it was my older Linksys a/b
router so I upgraded to a WRT54GS v. 6 wireless routher. Alas, no better,
and I have tweaked the crap out of the settings on the router, upgraded
firmware, etc. My XP desktop has no problems with wired connectivity, my XP
and Mac laptops have no problems...just the Vista machine. Someone please
figure this out!!!

Hi all,

I am having exactly the same problem. When I wakes up from sleep mode, i
cannot connect to my broadband. It keeps saying 'failed to connect'.Everytime
i need to restart my PC. It's annoying! Does anyone have a better solution
rather than each time unplug & replug the connection. I wish we'll have a
permanent solution. Thanks

I also got an HP laptop and having the same problem. Can it be an HP
computers problem? Anyway, I'm also having the problem that when I close the
lid (and changed the power option to do nothing rather than put the laptop in
sleep mode) the network connection promptly disconnect.

But if I open the lid again I don't have problem reconnecting to the network.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Vista home premium and it disconnects
too, then I have to reboot to make a connection. Also, when I go to Windows
Mail, I have to dial another connection to check mail...never had to do this
on XP. This then happens every 10 mins when it checks for mail, even when I
have ticked the Dial Automatically box, it still asks my permission....damn
thing.

Check you Windows Mail options and make sure 'Hang up after sending and
receiving' isn't checked in the connections tab.

We had the same problem. Service provider said it was the ethernet card.
Bought a new one and still no internet. We reloaded Vista and the problem is
solved. Might have been something with one of the latest updates.

Hello all.
I had this exact same problem 2 weeks ago. I tried everything but
nothing worked. After sleep mode I was always getting a local connection
only with no internet - having to reboot to get an internet connection.
Then I tried the following which solved the problem.

select start/control (click on classic view) select Power Options
click on one of the Power Plans (I selected High Performance) then
click on 'change plan settings' now click on 'put the computer to sleep'
select NEVER. Reboot.

I hope this helps some of you out as it did me. I have not had a
problem with my internet connection since doing this ten days ago.

My computer is Vista Home Premium, dual core, quad, 4 megs of ram. Best
of luck. Samol

Also go into Device Manager for your Wireless card and shut off the
option to "allow power management to shut off this device...".

Those two actions solve most of these issues.
