My host was 2mhost.com. I'm going to dump them.

try 1and1.com .. most fp users use them nowadays....

another tip is not to use just anyone's domain name checker .. they just buy
them up. I always use namecheap.com (where I buy all my domains)

political-blogs.com is taken as well sad to say.

but political-weblogs.com is not ...

politicalweblogs.com is taken though

but the one without the dash is not and people call blogs weblogs or
blogs...

us-political-blogs.com
or usa-political-blogs.com are not taken

neither are they taken without dashes.... depends if you want to be more
specific.... keyword wise that is a good thing...

so still lots of scope ... :)

It's just not in the cards. I'll never get a domain. Just got screwed
again. This time by Network Solutions. What a corrupt process!
Finally came up with another domain name I liked: politicsusa.com

According to Network Solutions, the domain was available. I
proceeded to checkout. At that point, I was surprised to see
an unwanted domain listed for three years. I backtracked to
delete the unwanted domain. All the fields cleared. When I
tried to return to the check-out page, I was informed that my
politicsusa.com domain was taken! Say what? It didn't take
a full minute to delete the odd domain and return to checkout.
How could someone register the domain in less than a minute?
There had to be something crooked going on.

I complained bitterly to Network Solutions and they sent me
a note stating that politicsusa.com was registered to another
party, but the suffixes .us and .net were available for my use.

May be slow but I smelled a rat. Ran a whois check on
politicsusa.com and guess who my domain is registered
to: NETWORK SOLUTIONS. The registrar has the
domain locked, and he's with Network Solutions.

Network Solutions stole my domain name from me while
I was on their check-out--all poised to enter financial
data. I suppose they want to force me to "buy" my
domain name from them, plus pay $78 for two years.
That won't happen.

Some outfit named National Journal in Washington, DC grabbed
my domain. They must have a pact with Network Solutions...
if anything with "politics" comes up on check-out page, Network
Solutions automatically switches the domain to them. Can't
fathom any other way that I could lose an available domain in
less than a minute.

Network Solutions stole my domain name from me while
I was on their check-out--all poised to enter financial
data. The odds of someone at National Journal in D.C.
coming up with "politicsusa.com" on a Saturday PM
and going through National Solutions check-out at the
exact same time I was clicking the "checkout" button
is awfully remote, don't you think? There has to be a
setup.

I'm scratching Network Solutions from the list of trustworthy
registars.

Used Network Solutions to finally register a domain. I'm not
terribly excited about it: politicalvents.com At least I can start
development in a few days.

Came up with one I really liked, politicsusa.com, and Network
Solutions said it was available. I went through the acquisition
process, and when I got to checkout, was greeted with a
message that the domain was taken after all. The domain
had first been registered in 1997, and was paid through
2012. Network Solutions attributed it to an error in
their system. Bummer.

Also used Network Solutions to make an offer to the
monster who stole my politicalblogs.com. domain. I doubt
that will pan out since I'm only offering $100.

Why oh why are you using network solutions? .. i've heard story after story
about them...

that is what i meant about not using just anyone to check if domains are
free...they pinch them. and you when back and used them after your
experiance? .... me when I stick my hand in the fire .. I don't do it again!

I recommend you move the domain asap to namecheap.com (they won't charge you
but network solutions might) ... i would also get the domain name
politcal-vents.com ... this gives you two keywords and a phrase ... would
you type in politicalvents when searching for information about that
subject?

Good luck

Tina,

Thanks for your input. It's appreciated!

The simple reason I used Network Solutions
is that it was recommended by people in this
forum whom I greatly respect.

Must admit that I got suspicious when I entered
over 30 creative variations on "political" and all
were taken. It would be to their advantage to
lock those domain names and sell them to the
highest bidders, instead of merely registering
them for me for $34 a pop. Oh, my paranoia
is apparent, isn't it? (Smile.)

I am dense at times but I don't see the value in
registering "political-vents.com" I started laying
the foundation for politicalvents.com today.

How would "political-vents.com" interact to
my future politicalvents.com website? I don't
get it. Don't see how it would aid potential
contributors in finding my site via Google.

I registered my domain with Network Solutions
but won't be using them as a hosting service.
Was not aware that I could transfer a
registered domain at Network Solutions to
NamesCheap.com. I am aware of the
methodolgy of transferring my domain
to a hosting service's DNS servers.

I haven't tried it but it seems that Google
could direct people to my site if visitors
searched on "political" or "vents", plus
my extensive list of over 80 page links.

I would register and use political-vents.com, mostly because to me,
politicalvents.com looks like a misspelling, of politicalevents.com.
