Hi Puss.....

I put ZAPro v.4.5.530 (not the latest 'beta' release) on here a few days ago
and no problems with the computer......better check the SR points which I
forgot about. But Heirloom and Jack M. both say that they have no problems.
(SR points are fine.....had a couple since then)

Want me to pop in on Dad and read him the riot act when I am over there?

He'll be 150 yrs old this year so I'm cutting him some slack.
As to the MS CD.......thanks to Mike Maltby's explanation, I will not be
using it, period. Perhaps if I updated to XP, I would. But not on this
WinME baby of mine.......it really screws stuff up, doesn't it.

Yes, well I guess that was my next post. I expect Mike notes how - eg on a
machine which already has the updates - in XP it immediately exits with the
message to that effect, whereas in 9x it installs/re-installs everything
(IE6.0sp1, DX9b, WMP9, MDAC 2.8 etc).

Presumably when wmp7.x is already installed, you get updated to 9.x, which
if you've been avoiding like the plague will be as welcome a shipful of
rats.

Well, I did only really get it for an extra source of the files. It but
seems to me it is MS releasing a cd equivalent of Automatic Updating that
installs/re-installs everything without allowing to pick and choose.

Vaguely on that subject - I tried the MS Baseline Security Analyser (1.2)
yesterday. That (as per the earlier build) identified not having Automatic
Updating set to fully-auto, as a security problem. That is, having it set to
'notify' before downloading and/or installing, is 'an issue'.

The Windows Update CD afaik is for users who have problems updating, whether
of a bandwidth nature or due to an intelligence deficit. But the MBSA is for
sysadmins! At least 1.2 recognises when custom IE Zone settings are better
than default. The previous gave an impression that scripting in IE was safer
enabled than disabled.

BAU, I guess. One size fits all and it's MS.
