First off, it should be on a DVD, not a CD. Second, did you turn off UAC
and reboot prior to installing?

it is a dvd and I have not turned off uac since im signed in as admin but ill
give it a whirl any how.

no luck there either. When in windows explorer it says drag file here to
add them to the disk. and does not display any files yet the auto run does
start when i click install or setup when you right click the dvd drive.
when i click install when the auto start window opens the window disappears
as though i hit cancel.

Did you remember to reboot after you disabled UAC? Also, is your video card
supported by Vista? I have C&C 3 working fine in Vista Ultimate RTM x64.
I even downloaded the latest patch today so now it is at version 1.03

ATI x1600 PRO
X-FI Platinum
AMD X2 4200+
2 x 1GB PC3200 DDRAM
200GB EIDE ATA/133

That's insane 3 patches in it's first week out ! I don't know if I'm
impressed or disappointed. Though all three are pretty small list of fixes.
Guess I'll go with impressed for the moment.

So when I the chance on Tuesday, I can go grab the game, by then Patch 4
should be out and then I can test it under Vista64.

Weeeee !

Note, unless you are signing in with the actual account Admin, then you may
still want to test with the UAC off. having an account designated as admin,
isn't the same as it was under XP. If you are logging in as the Actual
administrator account, then the UAC will not annoy you.

Raven, what is your Windows Experience Rating for your computer? I just
noticed that in order for C&C 3 to install you need at least a rating of
3.3, but 4.1 is preferred.

No idea why people are telling you to disable UAC and admin stuff, this is a
Games for Windows game, it's designed with Vista in mind. When you explore
the DVD if Windows Vista is saying the DVD is blank, then I'd wager that
your DVD drive is having problems reading the DVD correctly.

I have a DVD drive that won't read my Oblivion DVD even though it reads fine
in another DVD drive on the same system.

This is just a guess. Maybe someone can explain if Vista has some new
security that allows certain DVDs to hide files, but still function? Nothing
I have heard of, but I don't keep my nose as close to the grindstone as I
used too.

Ravin78, try a different DVD drive, see if the DVD reads in a friends
system, and i'll see you on the battlefield. :)

You do not need to turn off UAC, Command and Conquer 3 has no issues with
UAC being on. Turning it off and on all the time is nothing but bad advice
and can lead to loads of problems.

It's likely an issue related to the SecuROM protection on the DVD.

Paul, I leave UAC turned off all the time as well as turning off the
Security Alert notice on the taskbar. I find UAC to be intrusive, and
totally unnecessary for the way I use my computer.

I also think its a problem with the dvd drive and the game. I'm running a
evga 7900gt graphics card and my user index is 5.2 so it's nothing there.
Thank you everyone for the ideas but I think I will be going out and getting
a 2nd dvd drive today and finding out if thats the issue.

Can you point me to the list of problems caused by turning the UAC off
and On ?

Switching UAC off and on will result in information being stored in two
different places. With UAC on, information being written to Program Files
will be redirected to a user area. With UAC off it'll just write back to
Program Files successfully.

So when you switch between them you could lose access to your save games,
profiles etc. Same applies for any changes in the registry.

UAC is more than an annoying prompt. No regular user should be turning it
off, to do so would open up the machine to a lot more attack vectors.
