Karen,

Read the seprate newer thread on the latest version of Burn4Free.

Apparently, Burn4Free contains spyware called NavHelper. NavHelper is an
adware program that displays advertisements based on keywords in search
engines.

So I suspect the toolbar being installed is part of the spyware payload.

For more info on NavHelper see
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.navhelper.html

You may want to see if the spyware files listed on the above website are now
on your system (or just run Adaware or Spybot).

I ran both spy-bot and Ad-aware, but they found nothing but then I hadn't
installed B4Free yet. Looks like I'll just delete the program without
installing it. Burn4Free will not work without it according the Symantec
website. I'll see if I can find the newer thread.

The Symantec website says the program will then not work correctly if the
"trash" is removed. True?

Hello,

I had to D/L Burn4Free 4 or 5 times before I got an UNcorupted download.

After installing it, I removed the spyware before even trying out the
program and then... It wouldn't recogniz the CD burner. Oh well.

Thanks Mark. I don't need the program that badly but had hoped to find
something better than MMJ which came on my PC.

This one looks interesting. Also has a forum.
CDBurnerXP Pro is a freeware CD/DVD-Writer program. The program can write
CD-R, CD-RW DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW discs.

http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

Haven't installed it yet to see if it is useful and if it doesn't have any
spyware. My hard drive is sitting on the floor waiting for a replacement.

X-No-Archive: yes

I have 4.7 and it recognizes it without any problems whatsoever.

I installed 4.7 over 4.6 and now Deep Burner recognizes the drives.
Perhaps my original installation of 4.7 was corrupt :-(

So I stand corrected

ASPI driver? Is it a non windows one?
Can you give full name and the place to download?
Where it should be placed.

X-No-Archive: yes

Way better than Burn4Free

Deep Burner
www.deepburner.com

Then Deep Burner does not work with the latest ASPI driver 4.7 but,
IMHO, requires 4.6

With 4.7 it does not recognize the CD burner.

I tried all the files in windows the answer was
the same. Only aaspichk.exe worked.
In any case i downloaaded a file Forceaspi17.zip which solved the problem
with both Burn4Free and DeepBurner. That
file has all the driver for ASPI 4.60.1021.
Now works fine.
Thank you very much for your help.
There is definitely something wrong with
ms site or the files there.
May God bless you.
Thanks.
