I am trying to setup Burn4Free on my WinMe os.
I have tried to run the setup file but eventually
it does not reccognise the c: hdd E: Cd Writer
and F: dvd play drives. It is the latest download.
All the dropdown boxes for drives appears to be live but does not list any
drive and nothing can be entered manually.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, this is a problem I have enountered with other software. I have tried
and tried and tried to find an answer to the issue of how to make software
recognize a drive. So far, I haven't had any luck getting an answer. I
wish I could be more encouraging, but if you do find out will you please
post it here. I would give anything to know what to do myself.

Is DeepBurner free of spyware and other nasty surprises? I was going to try
it but the license agreement states:
2. GRANT OF LICENSE.

(a) Freeware. You may use the SOFTWARE without charge. ASTONSOFT may place
advertisements in evaluation copies. ASTONSOFT will not monitor the content
of your use (e.g., sites selected or files used).

Sounds kind of dubious to me unless others have had first hand experience
with it. I'd be interested in knowing what the "advertisement" and
"evaluation copy" mean in real useage.

I wondered the same thing when I first came accross it, so contacted
Astonsoft and they assured me that the information you have quoted, is
actually referring to the older versions, and not the newer one's. (if you
are unsure, see their forum). I've been using it ever since and it works
like a charm, and nothing suspicious has been found so far.

Thanks for the return with your experiences on that; it looks nice from the
screenshots and I'm interested in giving it a go.

Looking at the screenshots, it doesn't appear to be able to produce
VCD's, it just mentions Audio CD or Data CD/DVD. Pity, unless I missed
something of course.

I just downloaded Burn4Free and it does include some kind of "search tool".
:( I already have GoogleBar installed... what now? :(

Karen,

Read the seprate newer thread on the latest version of Burn4Free.

Apparently, Burn4Free contains spyware called NavHelper. NavHelper is an
adware program that displays advertisements based on keywords in search
engines.

So I suspect the toolbar being installed is part of the spyware payload.

For more info on NavHelper see
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.navhelper.html

You may want to see if the spyware files listed on the above website are now
on your system (or just run Adaware or Spybot).

I quickly uninstalled Burn4Free when it kept dialling in as long as the program
was running.

You may want to run Adaware or Spybot to get rid of any remnants of the
spyware.

Amazing isn't it? How you can ask a simple question, get a zillion replies
and not one of them NOT ONE OF THEM addresses the original question.

Then Deep Burner does not work with the latest ASPI driver 4.7 but,
IMHO, requires 4.6

With 4.7 it does not recognize the CD burner.

I have 4.7 and it recognizes it without any problems whatsoever.
