I'm fed up with BS activation, I've had call MS up 3 times the last 6 months
to reactivate because of hardware changes. It's a waste of time and money.

Not a Linux fan but more open to considering than ever at this point.

Any thoughts from the beta users here??

All phone calls have gone smoothly, but do take time. Good luck trying to
save time with Linux

I don't blame you for being fed up, and I'm sorry you've had such a hard
time of it. When we decided to choose and build a media center for the
house, we looked over the choices and decided to go with MythTV on
Fedora Core because with the money and all the DRM in Windows Media
Center, the cost definately outweighed the benefits. Is it XP you've
had to activate so many times on, or is it a beta copy of Vista? If it
is Vista, mabey it was bugs and they are more or less fixed now. Mabey
not. Time will tell. Good luck.

Good luck with Linux.

If activation was such a bad thing and Microsoft thought that it would put
people off buying there product there would be a good chance they
(Microsoft) would remove the activation process.

They know that people have a little moan about it at first, but get used to
it.
The bit that would be very bad would if you could not get it activated, but
I am sure that would never happen ???

IMO

I've Used Linux Before (at College), And It's Very Lame, Just FYI.

Good luck with Linux, you will need it
Jerry
P.S. I have build 5600 installed on 4 (2 dell)(2 hp) no problems. Again good
luck

I'm selling my computer entirely after the experiences I've had running
Vista! You'll next see me posting messages the way the deities meant us
to - using a pencil and a post-it note!

.... oh wait, do you suppose that a network engineer who won't use computers
might have some job-retention issues ... hmmm, never mind.

;-)

I was frustrated by both the proposed Vista EULA and by WGA, WGAN, SPP. I
actually removed XP and Vista from my machines and used nothing but SUSE
Linux Enterprise Desktop for three weeks and I am now back running Vista RC1
and installing SLED in a virtual machine. While I didn't hate Linux, in
fact there was a lot to like, I prefer Vista. I'm sure I will continue to
use both Vista and Linux but Vista is likely to become my primary
workstation.

MS relented on the EULA which was a good thing and although I still hate
activation and such for the inconvenience they cause I really like Vista.
While Linux definitely has several advantages, I like working in Vista
better. This means that I will have to put up with activation and the other
copy protection techniques which I find annoying but have never prevented me
from using MS software although I have had to make calls in to MS.

Unlike many, I have actually grown to like the UI changes in Vista, IE and
Office 2007. They have taken a little adjustment but I'm finding that my
productivity really hasn't slipped. Now that Vista has gone to RTM, more
and more hardware drivers are slowly becoming available. MS Fingerprint
Reader is now supported, Lenovo drivers expected by month end. Vista is
really shaping up.

Maybe I have just been plain ol' lucky?

Each variant of Vista has run smootly in spite of my own incompetence on a
few occasions (not too few).

Suse linux?

I don't mind trying linux but it will be in addition to Vista rather than
either/or.

One down, only 349 more distro's to go!

.... the market share of each being different from 1/350 and SUSE being
a major player, like Red Hat...

I went out and bought a copy of MCE because I was fed up with phoning them
to activate my copy of XP Pro, it seems that once their database labels you
a thief you're stuck!

As a paying customer I don't like being treated like a theif either, I am
however prepared to accept it as a necessary evil.
