You should try CCleaner which can fix many registry as well as stray dll file issues, it may help your systems overall speed including a quick shutdown.

I have 77 files in the prefetch folder. So i should delete them all?

Here is a good utility to help you with the Prefetch folder files, its a small download and works like a charm.

It take about 33seconds to get to the log on screen and 46 to get to the desktop screen and a further 30 before i can actually start any programs.

That is pretty bad isnt it?

Is CCleaner a good util? I dont like using these sledgehammer approaches to cleaning registery etc. Can anyone recommend it as something which might help my computer shut down quicker?

I can't find `friggin' in any glossary of computer terminology to which I have access. Are such words alien to this forum or do they have special meaning to which I am not party?

shut up & lighten up :p

You will come across the word 'friggin' and other variants thereof, should you choose to take a walk along the street named, commonly, 'real life'

One may find other variants of this expresssion somewhat offensive, so we won't go there now.

This word is not alien to this forum and is even acceptable, albeit with raised eyebrows and a frown. We are, after all, a 'family' forum.

In other words, don't get pernicketty, it's silly :)

Haha, oh my god!!

Maybe i should have used freakin instead. But if you do find the word offensive mate, then make sure you dont watch Austin Powers. :-)

Back on topic ...

CCleaner is not a sledgehammer program ... it is the best, in my opinion, at what it does. As always, when cleaning the registry ... BACK IT UP FIRST ... one of the first things a good user should know. :p

The quickest way to 'shut down' a PC is to turn of the power at the mains plug ... second quickest way is to hold the power button in for 4-6 seconds ... the safest way is to use Shut-down from the start menu.

One of the best sources of shutdown problems is HERE read it. ;)
