OK, I installed the Vista software via a CD I recieved in the mail. The
installation process worked smoothly, and had no problems. Until I started
Vista. About 2 minutes in, there was a blue screen that would pop up saying
that there was a major malfunction and Vista needed to restart in order to
save your software. It said something about checking your memory space, but I
have 10 GB left on my HDD, so that can't be a problem. It also said something
about checking your BIOS for shading and shadowing (or something like that),
and I have no clue what it is. I like to think I know something about PC's,
and I had been looking forward to Vista since 2004. Now I am woried that I
messed up my computer forever. What can I do to fix this??

I am not sure if this helps, but I have a NVIDIA 6800 graphics card, and My
PC is an HP Pavillion a600n. If anyone has any clue on how to help me, it
would be greatly appreciated

Did you do a clean install or an upgrade?

If you did a clean install was it to the same partition that your XP
operating system is installed on, or to another partition?

If you did an upgrade was it to a production machine, your main home
machine, or a test machine?

They are probably talking about RAM not disk space. How much RAM do you
have in your system?

Start by backing up your data if you can. Try starting your computer in
Safe Mode. You may have to use a repair CD or a CD bootable version of
LINIX.
I am not sure if this helps, but I have a NVIDIA 6800 graphics card,

Have you downloaded the latest version of the driver. Some NVIDIA drivers
are available from Microsoft Update. If not you can get it from the NVIDIA
web site. Install the driver from Safe Mode if you can get it to come up
without the BSOD.
and My
PC is an HP Pavillion a600n.

I don't know whether HP has Vista drivers for the HP Pavillion a600n, but
they do for some printers, so the chance is probably good.

would be greatly appreciated

1) Start in Safe Mode

2) Back up data.

3) Download Drivers.

4) Uninstall old drivers for devices that you have new drivers for.

5) Install new drivers.

6) Reboot, and see if it has done any good.

Well, I guess nobody's gonna help. Well, this might help.

Here's a report of the crash via windows update

The time elapsed from your initial post to your whine "Well, I guess
nobody's gonna help." is 29 minutes. Gimme a f*&*ing break.

And my upgrade was on a home machine. I use this computer mainly for my High
School work, but I still liked the stuff mentioned on Vista.

I upgraded from XP. I wasn't thinking right. I did it right when I did XP
Beta testing, so I have no clue why I upgraded. But I still don't understand
how to upgrade my BIOS or install and uninstall drivers.

You don't need to upgrade your BIOS or install any drivers. You need to
turn your computer off, then put your Windows XP recovery disc in the tray,
then close the tray, then turn your computer on, then follow the
instructions it gives you on how to wipe out everything and install XP.

My PC is connected on a network with 3 other PC's. Could I back up my
files
on another computer and use that to restore my PC???

You have my permission to use any legal and ethical means at your disposal
to back-up your files. But I am dubious as to whether you are able to
restore your PC from the network. Tom Scales, Collin, Andre and a bunch of
others can, but you, not so much. It is much simpler to reformat from the
CD drawer anyway. Unless you don't have the CD.

OK, then how can I use the BIOS, because I didn't back up my files like a
moron. Like another guy said, I lost reason when I got the CD because I was
really excited to see what Vista had to offer...

Please read Mark's response. If your computer does not respond to the
recovery key during startup you have overwritten the function with Vista and
need to contact HP for a fix to reenable the function.

Do you have an XP cd or just a recovery cd? Or do you have a recovery
partition?
Lets get this established first and then proceed.

It wasn't installed on a partition, and I am not sure if I have the recovery
CD. Did it come with the Windows XP Software??

If you have a recovery cd it came with your computer and then you likely do
not have an XP cd unless you bought one. If you have an XP cd then you can
use it to reinstall the system. If you don't have either an XP cd or a
recovery cd then your computer probably has a recovery partition (hidden).

I don't know what you mean that you did not install on a partition. Every
system hard drive has at least one partition. It may have more than one,
but it has to have one. The OS is installed on this partition.

Holy CRAP!!! I am an idiot!!! I had my iPod USB connection still in my PC. I
took it out, and it works fine. YESSSSSSSSs!!!!!

Great! You sure dodged that bullet.
