Funny you should mention that, I bought a canon printer that they

without me asking, looking up the info or anything. Wonder how many
customers MS has sent letters to explaining how to fix the problems they
have with CD's of the updates etc? They expect people on dial up to
download hundreds of megs of updates and find this on their time?
Exactly. I consider myself far more educated than most users and from
dealing with others (friends and family), most have no idea what a firewall
even is. To assume these people will protect themselves is seen by watching
how fast viruses spread today. -They- are clueless and have no interest in
learning how to be a geek.
For someone to defend MS (or a poorly written linux application etc) as
being the users responcibility rather then the person selling the software
is silly. They are making money selling a product that has a problem and
they should take care of it.
As a consumer, I expect that if some safety issue arose with these
products, a product recall would follow. The vendor would contact me,
and would undertake to replace the defective product at their expense.

Jupiter; you need to lighten up <g> The software industry in general,
and MS in particular, is on really shaky ground when it starts
lecturing *users* on safety responsabilities.
