Hey gang,

I'm sure by now you've all seen the news that BioShock installs the
securom rootkit? The same kit that gotr Sony in hot water with MS a
few years ago?

Can any of you confirm that the rootkit DID NOT install under x64?
Some have said rootkits can't but I've seen one post that said it
did.

I won't by the game if this is a problem (that and no true widescreen
support, sheesh).

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about wide-screen. I'm playing at
1680x1050ws and have no problems.

SecuROM is a royal PITA but if it becomes a problem that stops me
running my game then I'll source a hack.

It's minor but if you compare standard to WS- you'll see that the
solution for WS was to crop the top/bottom off the view.

Versus something like HL2:

Would not stepping back a bit in the BS example not give you the correct
result? I have no problem in game as you don't see 4:3 and 16:10 side by
side.

If you are using an Nvidia card try using the 163.44 forceward with added
Bioshock support http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1713

You always have to post your system specs Thybalt. I don't care if you've
posted it 300 times already, post it again, hell make your signature a
compressed version of your sys.specs, that way you never forget.

And just go buy Bioshock, the demo does not do the game justice unless
you're just in it for the graphics. Bioshock is all about the story.

The demo itself may have problems.

I have installed the game proper on vista ultimate 64 with 162.22 drivers
and it seems to run fine on 8800GTX
(1920 x1200 with everything maxed, so its a good test of stability)

The only problem I had was trying to activate.
Several times it failed (checked and double checked code but it still said
invalid)
Cancelled and restarted several times.
Don't actually know what I did but suddenly it accepted code
(validation server was overloaded perhaps ?!)
I have no problem with code activation, but Securom is not on.
Hopefully 64 bit may have denied it permission, anybody know ??

Actually it's not activating because your video card is too fast. Trade it
in for my video card, kthxbai

video driver fix doesn't apply to everyone, and honestly I don't know what
it fixes, but I think it grew back some of my hair, and if nVidia says it
fixes some problems with Bioshock that's good enough for me.

As for your activation problems, it's probably the quality of your copper in
your house. Rip your cable and phone lines out of your wall and replace them
with new coax and RJ-45 to specs.

Ok, so I put the system specs in the signature. And regarding about the
beta drivers, I couldn't find - or I didn't do the proper search - how
to disable the driver verification. It says they aren't digitally signed
and can't install the driver. Could you help me out a bit here?

Damn this answer is going in the top-10

Reboot your computer, after your computer POSTs, press F8 (like you're
entering Safe Mode)

From the Safe Mode menu there should be an option to turn digitally signed
drivers "Off".

Once in Windows try installing the drivers again, OR just wait for nVidia to
release a new WHQL certified driver version for Vista x64.

I reinstalled the game, I admit, I didn't buy it, but now it works
perfectly, all on high details 1680x1050 with forceware 162.22 (vista
x64).
Thanks for the helping hand guys (and girls).

If you haven't bought a legit copy yet Thy, and if it's any consolation, I
still play System Shock 2 (the game this game is based off of), so if you're
wondering if the game will be worth the investment, I think it will be.

This is a GOTY title for sure, if you don't pick it up now, pick it up in a
month or so when the price drops.

Yes that's what I'm waiting for, the price to drop. Usually drops about
30% in a month or two.

Someone from Mercury News (in San Jose, CA) was comparing the new Hellgate:
London to Bioshock (saying he was practicing Bioshocks use of weapon combos
to apply it to Hellgate), I might have to check out this one when it comes
out.

EA publishing...

Doesn't bioshock install copyright software and limit the number of
installations to five on one computer? If you need more than five for
whatever reason I've been told you have to pay for more credits.
