This game is about to be released in under 3 hours.

Both ATI and NVIDIA have beta graphics drivers to address some problems
with this game.

I have tried the ATI drivers with the demo under Vista Ultimate and the
work without fault.

I Love you guys,

I would of died if I had gotten home, loaded the game and had "issues" right
off the bat. I've been waiting for this game since EA canceled System Shock
3.

I have to work all day today the box is sitting on my desk taunting me.
TAUNTING I SAY!

Gonna be a LONG day.

I have it pre-loaded from steam on my PC and have to wait until Friday
so you think you have problems waiting a few hours :(

Played the demo and to be honest it looks great but it's not my type of game
have fun when you get into it Andy..but it's BF2 all the way for me :)

So did Steam not deliver on time? Ouch, major hurt for Steam. I love Gabe
and the gang down at Valve. Steam was going to be my backup if for some
reason my copy got pilfered from pre-order.

Sorry you have to wait. :(

I just used LogMeIn(.com) to connect to my computer at home and update my
nVidia drivers, computer is just waiting for me to get home. I may have to
calibrate my speakers before I start playing. I'm considering getting an
X-fi card just for this game, the audio in System Shock was amazing, I'm
sure this one will be no different.

I LOVE dropping the lights late at night and playing System Shock. I love to
be scared and BF is "not" scary. Well not in the shock way, more like the
scared that people really talk to other people in that way kind of shock.

My favorite games have characters, plots, and are genuinely fun and
innovative.

Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Siren, Rule of Rose, Eternal Darkness, Fatal
Frame... great games.
Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, KoToR, Civ, Alpha Centauri, just about any
Tycoon game by Sid Meyers
Half-Life, not Quake, not Counter-Stike, DoD is good. I like games where I
don't run into idiots, DoD tends to lean towards less idiots so it's an
exception.

Shooters are awesome, but I prefer more visceral gameplay wherever possible.

I'm in the UK so the activation is on Friday for us in Europe :(

I already have an x-fi (http://pcspec.brion.co.uk) :) Happy gaming.

Well I don't so :P *Phibit*

Sorry ya gotta wait til Friday. Sure it'll be worth it though. Right now I'm
counting minutes til 4:30... bout 2 hours 10 minutes to go. Of course then
it's a 25 minute drive to the store, 5 minutes home, 10 minute install, 20
if I pick up an X-fi.

*does the pee pee dance around the office*

I've just loaded steam and the pre-load started validating , very
slowly, so maybe VALVe have activated everyone that pre-loaded via steam
and its only the retail that activates Friday. Fingers crossed :) Only
problem is it's 10:23pm here so I cannot have the sound up very loud, if
I do get activated :(

I love the fact that every game is diffo though...and you can't beat BF2 for
a right good shoot em up to the tune of gulf one :)

SS2 was one of the best things i ever played. I pre-ordered Bioshock as
soon as it was possible. Can't even imagine that it could be worse than
excellent :)

Bioshock, I can honestly say, is like System Shock 2, but with slightly more
balaned gameplay. I don't know how to describe it, but let me see if I can
break it down. (See below)
But what really surprised me lately, was the quality of STALKER. It's
fantastic, especially some areas are with "no comment" atmosphere.
Official site doesn't mention it (as far as i know), but it's probably
based on a movie From Tarkovsky - Stalker, from 1979 and Chernobyl blew
up in 1986 :)

I think I have to try this one one of these days, it sounds good.
But sorry, this is OT, i know. I just had to mention it. Usually ppl in
"Bioshock thread" tend to like atmospheric titles and Stalker is just
that. Probably more action than adventure, but honestly, Bioshock is
also much more action based than SS2 was. Still, I hope it will be great
:)

It's ok, bioshock is an off-topic game, might as well keep the conversation
going, not like this newsgroup is super busy.

So I think Bioshock is like SS2 because it just feels like SS2. So let me
see if I can list some comparisons.

SS2 Stuff vs. BS Stuff
Hacking - As in SS2, in BS you can hack the vending machines for ammo and
other goodies. How you hack is different, but it's close enough. I think
it's easier to hack with a mouse/keyboard vs. a gamepad though. Hacking
Cameras and Robots in BS though it awesome.

Psionics - Replaced with Plasmids, only difference is you can only have like
up to 6 equiped at a time. Have to find a "machine" to swap them out.

Weapons - Same, but I don't think they degrade like they did in SS2,
different ammo types for most weapons, easy to switch out, and the wrench is
back and badass.

Body Mods - While more Cyber'ish in SS2, in BS they are basically "Tonics".
You get powers you can equip up to 6 each in Physical, Engineering, and
Combat

Very much like SS2, but you never have to go to an "Inventory", that's all
gone, you just switch weapons or your equiped plasmids and kick ass.

It's crazy fun, and I did get a X-fi card, calibrated my speakers with a
sound meter (Radio Shack FTW!), broke a caster on my office chair (crap!),
and scared the crap out of myself like 20 times last night. Finally
collapsed around 2am.

This is how we roll..

OK, one thing I hate about Bioshock. The game has BOTH an activation code,
AND a new version of SecuROM that requires you to download a custom exe file
based on your systems hardware.

Can we PLEASE loose the activation codes? I used to love having Oblivion
installed on 2 computers. I'd keep my latest save on my thumb drive and
could play it wherever I found a system with the game installed.

Amazing games do NOT need copy protection.

From what I've been reading, the steam version also uses SecuROM on top
of steams own security and SecuROM is causing major problems :(

Always does, to this day System Shock 2 still has SafeDisc v1 in place, and
buggy as hell. Finding the hack to remove it is a pain in the butt, and the
hack doesn't work in Vista. :) (I have a disc, but I don't like using it if
I don't have too, it's already scratched a bit. Might have to use the banana
trick on it someday).

Does Steam require a CD-Key as well? If not then I'd say that's still the
way to go, you can install the game on multiple computers and it's all good.
CD-Keys are just a pain.

SecuROM just has issues with some DVD drives, just gotta swap out your drive
for another. Fortunatly a good burner is only $30 on newegg.com.

Just my two cents. STALKER wasn't horrible, but I think it's a ways from
fantastic. Granted it had some nice atmosphere, but it's got plenty of
bugs..Some really big and some just annoying. Quality wise, GSC needed about
another 6-9 months polishing the game and they are about 3 months late
getting out the 1.004 patch, which was billed as a minor fix, with the 1.1
patch suppose to be the major patch and now they are saying that they may
never official release the 1.1 patch as a patch, but a mod.

Adding insult to injury, they are looking to release their pre-queal (Clear
Skies), which will have all the features slated for the original stalker.
I'm not bitter about any of it or anything. It's just why I disagree with
the game being of fantastic quality

It's been noted on their website, that GSC's concept came from the Russian
movie Stalker. So good catch

me some hints what to look for, couse I've been looking at everything
that might couse it to crash, disabled xfire, closed yahoo mess.
Thank you.

If you are using an Nvidia card try using the 163.44 forceward with added
Bioshock support http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1713
