As an old geezer who wrote his first computer program in
1961, what I have seen is that progress is just replacing
one set of problems with another. Overall, Windows is no
worse than any other piece of software that has been
worked on by a lot of people over years of effort.
Regarding Mr. Sanderson, he gives good advice that is
useful, if followed, to 90% of the folks with problems.
My own experience with this has led me to adopt similar
procedures, but it can take hours to completely remove one
of these malwares that copies itself all over the place.
With two teenage boys, I get plenty of practice!
Where does it hide? Anywhere it can!
So I appreciate the $ that Microsoft put out to give us
this product for free. If you want something better, then
pay for one of the commercial products like SpySweeper.
But I really appreciate some of the tools that come with
the MS product that help me easily see what is going on.
It all can be done with Systems Information and registry
editor, but requires a lot more time and energy to learn
it.
I have been using MS products since 1982 (The Apple II
Basic Compiler) and have noticed that MS is the only
company that relentlessly improves their products until
they really work. I expect no less with this effort to
slay the malware beastie!
