Also, try and find the problem before blaming (flaming) a
company for something that has nothing to do with them.
Especially after you admit that you bought it, saw the wrong
charge and didn't do anything about it (that makes it your
fault) and let it sit for 6 months before testing. (your
fault again) Then when it doesn't work the way you "think"
it should, go on a flaming war, swearing up a storm.

Shoot first and ask questions later?

Yeah! BANG! Your dead!!! LOL!

Sure - read on the usenet faqs past the bit about trolling and brush up on
help group etiquette and what to do when you find out you wrongly defamed a
company kiddo.

Mmmm ... but did the suggested fix of changing the clock speed fix your
problem?

Sure - read on the usenet faqs past the bit about trolling and brush up on
help group etiquette and what to do when you find out you wrongly defamed a
company kiddo.

Wrongly?

I phoned in my order. I spoke to the guy. I told him I wanted to be
sure I would get the special price because it was a one day special.
He assured me that it would get his personal attention. He
overcharged me.

Some people are saying it is my fault I was overcharged, because I
chose not to do anything about it. That doesn't make it my fault. If
I call them (costs money for the long distance phone call) and they
say "sorry, can't help you" then my only option is to ship it back and
pray that I get a credit. Shipping costs time and money. So I chose
to not do anything, but that doesn't make it "my fault."

I chose to complain about it. If you still want to deal with that
company, go ahead, I won't stop you. But I have a right to complain
and warn others. As for me, I will only deal with big reputable
companies like Newegg. Little, poorly run operations like Directron
never do well because they are so eager to sqeeze a couple of extra
bucks out of each transaction they lose the possibility of repeat
business. I build at least one computer a year, and I am regularly
upgrading. Directron will never get a dime of that business.

As for the CPU, I put it into a top quality motherboard, where
everything else has always worked flawlessly, and despite a lot of
time playing around it still won't run at the rated speed. Maybe the
setup needs more tweaking, but I never needed to tweak an Asus board
before, so I think it is possibly a problem chip. I don't know, and
may never know. But with my experience with Directron so far I
wouldn't be surprised if they were knowing selling dodgy chips. If
I'd had a good experience with them they would have something called
"good will" and I never would have mentioned them in connection with
my unhappy experience. But they lost any possibility of good will by
either deliberately or carelessly overcharging me.

I have dealt with directron several times and have had no problems. I have
had bad parts and they always have done what they say they will do. I order
from newegg also and have had good service from them also. The advantage
with directron is that they do have a tech dept so they can test something
if you do send it back

Howdy!

As I recall when I first set the computer up with the Duron I had the
FSB set at 133 MHz. But I will check it to be sure. It sure sounds
like it might be that.

Sounds EXACTLY like it would be that. For a 1.33GHz processor would
be 10x1.33 ... and 10x100 is (taDA!) 1.000GHz, what you're getting.

I'd also read the printing on the die ... that's usually pretty
informative.

Uhm... Learn what a troll is. You might find a mirror helpful.

What model mainboard are you putting the chip in and what are the markings
on your CPU.

....and you should have bitched up a storm (even via EMAIL with is *NOT* long
distance) about being charged wrongly.

He's in another thread about it, He hasnt figgured out exactly how to change
the settings just yet

I dont know what the company is like myself and its possible you might have
got a wrong part, the thing is you showed and later admitted that you're
not the one to judge properly wether the part is right or not - but its
academic now anyway, you did jump the gun, which rarely works out on usenet
unless you are looking to argue a poor, constantly shifting case (trolling
-can be stimulating in moderation).

I post worse myself sometimes, but also post retractions. It is
particularly frustrating when you have a valid gripe and get the
details wrong;)

In the group where Im reading this crosspost, I dont believe the quick
cursing is appreciated either, /*ducks for cover*/

(Ho hum:)
'good to see you got some help anyway,

You're priceless! LOL!! You're blaming the company because *you* can't set
the FSB and/or multiplier correctly?! There's only one word for you -
****wit.

The thing is, WE'RE NOT DIRECTRON!

If you had just cut your losses that'd be one thing, or you can get this
resolved, but we can't give you any significant consolation for this
situation. We could tell you Directron is great, or horrible, and it
wouldn't make a bit of difference, wouldn't change your situation.

Email Michael Chang, president of Directron and give him the short and
sweet summary of what's happened.
