Best version of WinAmp?

Any opinions as to the best version of WinAmp? I recall reading adverse
comments about the series 3. Currently use 2.64 but see that 2.81 and
2.91 are still available. Worth changing?

2.81 works fine for me. Haven't tried the 2.9x nor the 3.x series.

Many people hate v3.xx series, that's why even authors of WinAmp
continue to support v2.xx series as "WinAmp classic" and newest
version is v2.91... It has one major improvment: it adds support
for all those cool v3.xx skins/plug-ins. And updates like this:

* fixed shuffle; now, when you start winamp w/shuffle on, it returns
you to the song you were at when you exited last time
* made winamp not crash if you close it while a file info dialog is open
* fixed jump dialogs when using language packs
* library: added "Physically delete file" in library's media view

Version later than 2.666 have a much better mp3 decoder, so I suggest you to
upgrade to 2.91 from your 2.64 one. Stay away from winamp 3, it will soon be
replaced by a newer version of Winamp since it is too buggy.
 
I use v2.5e with a decoder (FhG) from v2.22. I've never had a reason
to change.

Thanks for confirming what I'd heard about 3.x Sami - 2.91 it is then.

Thanks for the confirmation. I seem to remember it was *ages* ago that I
heard that 3.x was buggy. Any idea when the newer version will be
available?

If you like WinAmp the way it is now, use only v2.xx series. Authors
continue to development it too calling it "WinAmp Classic", since so
many people seem to think it's the better one. I would not hold my
breath with v3.xx, it has different kind of design and future updates
will continue to follow that road.
