And it uses the McAfee AV engine ;-)

I've used the paid Spamcop service for years and maybe get 1 spam slipping
through in a week which can be manually reported anyway.

Hi Peter,

I've uses the free SpamBayes for years, and virtually
nothing gets through.

More importantly, it is based entirely on what I believe to
be spam rather than what someone else believes to be spam.

All the best,

Is that sarcasm, or a genuine smiley?

It means it has a quality AV engine at its disposal.
Of course what ever software they wrapped around the McAfee engine may degrade that quality.

All the best,
I've been using Spambayes for about two months. At first I was
very impressed. Now I'm becoming concerned because it will
suddenly call an email "suspect" when it is from the same sender
and email address that has been allowed many times.

Have you had this experience?

Hi Louise,

I have not, but do have a question...

SpamBayes looks at every characteristic of the incoming
message and header.

When you find messages from the same sender and email
address being treated differently (that is, a previously
"ham" message being labeled as "suspect", are the message
bodies similar?

Also, do you know how to look at the Spam score details?

Thanks,

Yes - and I did that and found some interesting things.

First of all, Yahoo get an automatic high spam score - the sender
uses a yahoo email account.
The subject was left blank - also a high spam indicator
The body contained the word "personal" - apparently also a high
spam score.

There were a few more like this that made it make some sense.

But I wish there were a way to insert certain email addresses as
automatically OK - it seems to me that would at least take care of
missing an email from someone you wouldn't want that to happen
with.

I realize I should never forget to check the suspects - but
sometimes I do - that's when there's a risk.

Louise
