Bad 9800 Pro problem!

I have now tried the card with a 380W Antec and also on an Abit KG7
motherboard with the same results although my old grpahics card works fine
on both.

I guess this is the point that I point a definite finger at the new 9800!
Time to RMA it yes?

Should I get the same card again or avoid ATI.... I have a horrible feeling
the new card will have the same problem!

Thanks to all those who have helped

Have have just bought a Connect3D 9800 Pro (256Bit).

I have an Asus K8N-E Deluxe motherboard and when I boot the machine I
just get strange square blocks on the screen. Initially I get this:
I browsed the Asus-site and read your board supports AGP 8X (only 1.5V).
You sure your Connect3D supports this? I do think so but in this short
time I haven't had time to check out the specs sufficiently. It could be
that the card only supports AGP 8X 0.8V???

Interesting idea!

In the motherboard manual it says:

"Install only 1.5V AGP cards on this motherboard! 3.3V AGP cards are not
supported in this motherboard."

The connect 3D website directs me to the ATI website and then says that
the 9800 Pro card has "1.5V, 0.8V" 'signalling'.

So I assume this is all OK.

I have RMAd the card anyway and I just hope that they find it as not
working.

I think you can relax about your card being bad. I've seen this type of
thing many times over the years and it's always been the card. It's probably
a bad memory module. And don't worry about gettind a 9800Pro. The card still
kicks butt, and is a killer deal for the power you get. JLC

I have a made-by-ATI 9800Pro and it has worked flawlessly. I've even
overclocked it to XT speeds (with a VGA Silencer fan on it of course)
without any ill effects or artificating. The problem might be that you
bought a 9800Pro from some weird company that doesn't make good cards. As
other suggested, try a made-by-ATI, or Sapphire 9800Pro.
