One of my friends had a file called SUHDLOG.DAT that AVG 6 could not heal
nor send to the Virus Vault so I just went in and deleted the bleeder
manually. Just to make sure it was not an important file I then just
reloaded Win98Se over the existing Windows - everything seemed to work out
fine. -

There has been a few times AVG6 wont clear certain viruses but if you find
out that the files OK are to delete them without them being part of windows
system or what another program uses then you can delete them manually. The
lovely thing about Win98 is that you can restart your PC in good ol' DOS
Mode and delete the file from the command prompt easily.

IIRC that is a copy of the old boot sector saved as a file when the OS was installed. It is generally not needed.

There are several reasons why an AV might not be able to delete a detected suspected malware file and also several
reasons why it might not be a good idea to do so manually. If the ones he couldn't delete are in the _restore then flushing
the restore points would rid him of them safely.

I disable System Restore in WinME / XP these days and empty out the
C:\_Restore\TEMP folder - maybe its because I like going back to my Win95/98
Days - but saying that I do know a lot of people do find the System Restore
feature a handy one. it hasnt won me over though, sometimes to me feeling
its more of a problem than its worth.

If it wasn't so good at backing up malware it would be OK.

Another reason some program files are difficult to remove is 'cause the OS is using it and has locked it. Safe mode can
free up some of these, but some malware can also be active in safe mode. In that case a clean boot from another boot
device might allow you to delete the file.

I upgraded to AVG 7 a few days ago and I've had no problems with the
e-mail scanning. It worls the same as it did in AVG 6 for me. But I
use Eudora, not Outlook Express.

I've been using the paid version of AVG 7 with EMail scanning with Eudora
6.1 for over a year without problems.

If you don't want EMail scanning switch it off. Launch Control Centre;
Double click on EMail Scanner panel; [Disable plugin].

Late response to this post:
I just downloaded and installed AVG7 free edition. It caused problems
with Agent. Following Jock's advice seems to have fixed it.

Thanks, Jock!

It seems to me that a major source of problems is the e-mail scanning
(which is new to AVG7 Free?).

If you do not need e-mail scanning, then you can choose not to install
that component & I expect there will then be less problems. That is
what I did.
