AVG found over 10000 viruses on my computer

Relying on software to offset at risk computer behavior is like using a
crutch because you can't stop gnawing on your own leg. If you're not
sure what I mean by that, read:

I just wanted to take a moment and applaud that document and the person(s) responsible for creating it. It contains some of the best advice I've seen on computer security in a long time and should be required reading before EVER being allowed to operate a computer connected to the internet.

Thanks for helping to make internet safer!

Apparently Norton Internet Security didn't do a very good job if
10,000 viruses were detected. I can only recommend the usual: good
firewall like ZoneAlarm or even Windows Firewall if you're using XP,
Spybot S&D 1.3TX, Ad-Aware SE 1.05, SpywareBlaster 3.2 (set it to protect
everything.) Run those programs once a week and always check for updates.
Perhaps consider using Firefox web browser, which supposedly is more
secure. If using IE, change the privacy setting from Medium to Medium
High.

I have NIS AVG, all the virues are in AVG or Norton quarantined viruse
vaults hence I am inundated with messages from each about the viruses in the
others vaults, but is there a way around the problem other than getting rid
of Norton?

No idea how to do this in AVG, but in Norton 2002 ( and presumably in other Norton products as well.) you can specify Exclusions in the options panel. just tell norton not to scan the directory where AVG keeps it's vaults by specifing it as an excluded folder.

On that note, HOW do you set exclusions of this kind in AVG?? I've got an old copy of "SubSeven" that I like to play with once in a while (STRICTLY for learning's sake!!!! it's TIGHTLY controled!), and I would like to set up an exclusion in AVG7 (free) that will allow subseven to have a few directories that it is allowed to exist in so that I can run it's tools.
