Hi, I my computer uses win xp ,sp-2.
My Automatic Updates in Windows Security Center is disabled.
I did checked mark on Automatic Updates tab in System, in Control Panel.
Restart computer, and still disable.
What else I could do?
Thanks.

Click on Start>Run> in the dialog box, type: SERVICES.MSC and click on
'OK'. You will get the Windows Services window.......drag the lower right
corner to resize it to your liking........scroll, if needed, to Automatic
Update and make sure that the service is set to Automatic and do the same
for Task Scheduler. If either is not enabled, right click the service,
select Properties and change the setting in the drop-down option box. Let
us know how you fare.

Are the Windows updates being downloaded and installed?

Try Start, Help and Support, Keep your computer up-to-date with
Windows Update.

There is an option to look a History of Updates installed there.
You can also opt for a Custom install. Try downloading and installing
and if it fails look in the Event Viewer logs for Error Reports.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative
Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the
error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using
copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no
further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which
appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the
button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email)
and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting
from Event Viewer.

To use Windows Update you need to be logged on with
Administrator rights.

Hope this helps.

That part of the error.

Look again in Event Viewer and post a copy of
the whole report appearing there otherwise we are guessing.

Did you install the Active X Control by clicking on the yellow bar see this
link?
http://update.microsoft.com/microso...microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en&muopt=6

If the first link is broken try this one
http://snipurl.com/lkrn

I have set out below the way to manually download updates. This was
written for the normal situation but you will be invited to install the
Active
X Control. I think your problem is that you did not.

To get to Windows Update try this route. Select Start, Help and Support,
Keep your computer up to date with Windows Update and double click
Custom. The system then check on you and then your system to see
what you need. At the end of this stage under Select by Type will be the
number of Updates available by category. Click on Critical and it will list
the details of those available. Check the option for each and every one
and then click on Install. You will then be offered the option to Save to
Disk or to Run. Select Run. The process is then fully automated until it
says hopefully Successful or Finished. You then restart the machine.

That link is one of several that prompted me to
post as I did. It is not immediately obvious what you
are expected to do when you are presented with
this screen.

Try following the directions on the link I provided to you first. If Windows
Update still fails, then try these steps.

----------

Try uninstalling the ActiveX Controls for Windows Update. To do this, go top
the run dialog box and type

%windir%\system32\dllcache

If a System Protection dialog box appears then click CANCEL/ABORT. Now
delete "wuweb.dll" and "muweb.dll", if present. Type the following in the
run dialog box and click OK

system32

If a System Protection dialog box appears then click CANCEL/ABORT. Now
delete "wuweb.dll" and "muweb.dll", if present. Type the following in the
run dialog box and click OK.

%windir%\Downloaded Program Files

Delete "MUwebControl Class" and "MUwebControl Class".

Now try Windows Updates, this time you should be prompted to install the
ActiveX controls for Windows Updates.

OK, I got it all, I downloaded the Activex Control, and downloaded all updates.
Thanks a lot for your help.
