My God, Tiger, how can you live with yourself? Have you no shame?
Weren't you once rather better than this, IIRC?

So whom are you more obsessed with, Tyger or me? Just, you know, for
the record.

I don't subscribe to alt.humor.best-of-usenet. Have never read it.
But you're kf'd now.

|Okay, not in any particular order :
|Scan Disk
|Defrag.
|Virus check.
|Trojan check.
|Backup everything.
|Run Adaware.
|What else ? :-)
Get rid of all the junk files.
MRU files
Temp files
and any others you can think of.
Uninstall programs you installed to test and never removed.

I do that as I test them. :-)
Clean up the registry.

No need to. I remove all traces of things installed that I shouldn't
have as I go. :-)
Clean the computer. keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, monitor, the vents for
the air flow that cools the computer.

Ah ! Good advice. I hadn't thought of the "hardware" side of things. I
knew something worthwhile would come of this thread. Thanks. Now
where can I download "self discipline" ? :-)
Adjust your chair to a comfortable yet practical position.
Check for latest security updates.

With so many "updates", needing updates, it is hard to know what to
update. Good advice though.
Go through your newsgroup ignore list. Add people. Remove people

I usually do that "as I go".
Check for the latest version of the program you can't live without.

Too many. I would need to check for hundreds of updates each month.
Still, if the number were smaller that would also be good advice.

AND read this newsgroup ? Not so easy. :-)
Pay your electric and ISP bills
Got o work to get the money to pay electric and ISP bills :-)
Back everything up... don't forget your favorites/bookmarks like I did
once.

Item 5 above ?
There is probably some more stuff as well.

Maybe. :-)

Regards, John.

Erase slack space.

< snip >

Not clear what you mean here. Do you mean use something like Eraser to
overwrite the part of the drive without active files in ?

Regards, John.

Yeah, it is. Sometime I'll schedule it, when I remember.
Good. I was hoping it might help someone apart from me. :-)

No, the blink was just from the surprise I mentioned (below) at how we
fail to actually notice our routines. I'm not modifying anything (other
than trying to rember to write some lines that schedule automatic
backups).
Yes, that can happen. In my case it isn't so much a "lack of routine"
as a matter of remembering the routine. So many things to remember. At
the end of this thread I intend printing out my routine so it can act
as a "check list" reminder for me.
Come to think of it that would make a pretty handy (very small)
freeware program. Have a "to do" list and put a tick beside each
completed task. Not as elaborate as a full time management program
but not as elementary as a simple text file either.

The ToDo List on your handheld.[1] :)

[1]And probably plenty of PC versions of same[2], although I've never
looked.
[2]Some of which would be PC/handleld synchers, which don't actully
require a handheld on the other end.
