Anyone know why I can't rename folders?

I found a 'better' workaround that allows you to keep most of your user
settings. It seems there's something in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
that's causing the issue... (couldn't be bothered working out which exact
key(s))

By the way, it seems that this error didn't occur for a limited-access user
account that was ported over to Vista beta 2.

Workaround:
1. Transfer the user settings to a folder/removable drive using Windows Easy
Transfer. (first part of the transfer)
2. Complete the transfer by restoring the user settings that were saved into
a new account using Windows Easy Transfer. (This creates a new admin-level
account with most of the user settings intact).
3. Login to the new created account. Use regedit to export the entire
HKEY_CURRENT_USER to a file. Logout.
4. Log back into the problematic user account. Use regedit to import the
registry settings that were exported in the previous step.

Things seemed to work just fine after that. It may be possible to narrow
down the problematic registry key(s) - but, it's mostly working now, so meh...

I also upgraded from XP SP2 to Vista and now have the same problem. It's
driving me nuts. There should no reason why we cannot upgrade.

I too did an upgrade from XP sp2 to Vista Beta and have the very same
problem. It is driving me NUTS!

I too have the exact same problem. I also updated from XP Pro SP2. When I
installed, instead of a fresh install, I chose to upgrade to keep my files
and programs in place. Any help would be most appreciated!

Wow Rider thanks for the tip but I can tell you that this awfully cumbersome
to fix an issue that it seems to appear only when you chose to upgrade the XP
SP2 to Vista. I am also facing the same issue (which is also driving me nuts
yada yada) and Microsoft should be able to fix this thing quickly. All I want
to avoid is to do a frigging clean install THIS would drive me really nuts.

So...any suggestions out there?
