with John as to why I believe his approach encourages them.

1) I object to someone being accused in a public forum , with
flimsy evidence.

2)` I offer my opinion that this behavious simply invites trolls
to jump on Johns back and flood the group with accusations against him
of "netcop" (which I did not make)

so you

3) accuse me of ignorance of language, and sticking up for trolls.

I remain of the opinion that we are on the same side as to freeware,
and against trolls in this and most likely other newsgroups.

However, we diagree about methods, and I certainly still disagree with

quick to point out, it's unmoderated so perhaps an appropriate analogy
would be to say that I and others like me are "gun-toting"
*vigilantes* since the nearest sheriff is miles away.

Regardless, my apologies to the OP. No accusation was intended since
my carefully worded post included the word "If" as you mentioned. I
had no way of knowing what the "Serial number" was supposed to mean
other than guessing.

Never expect an apology from Blinky, Alistair. He can rationalize
anything in his own warped way to make it "right" in his own mind, no
matter how wrong it actually is. He hasn't been playing with a full deck
for some time now, but it's good to see he still has the ability to
laugh at himself - to be accused of wearing blinders by Blinkered the

I agree that it looked very much like a serial number related to the
program OP was asking about. In context, I thought it might very well
be just that, too, when it appeared.

But Blinky does contribute a lot to the group. In this case though, I
have given up on rational debate. At least JC will engage in debate
via email - Blinky, at the moment anyway, appears to be having a rough
time, and wants to insult rather than help.

Anyway, end of thread for me - I did consider doing a google search
for "Blinky the shark" and "sorry" - but didn't expect to see a great
number of hits :-)
