Any chance of returning Vista for XP at Circuit City??

It's apparent that you're easily confused and have no real understanding
of Windows, MS or Vista or even computers.
Don't you think it's about time for you to switch to something more
er...childishly designed like Ubuttoo.
I hear that flipping that cubie thing is not very challenging at all and
really fun!

just rent?

Millions of Vista

Really? You've counted each and every one of the "thoroughly
dissatisfied and disgusted" and it adds up to millions? I don't thinks
so. Not even close

Don't be such a retard, Frank. Of course I haven't counted the
dissatisfied users, any more than you have. But I personally know a few
people who have bought new systems running Vista, and of them, 1 (Home
Basic) is reasonably satisfied but not "wowed"; 2 (Home Premium) are
dissatisfied but willing to tough it out in the hope MS will fix the
problems; and 1 (Home Premium) has decided to go back to XP.

That's a pretty small sample, so let's set the margin of error at a
whopping 50 percent. Fair enough? That implies at least 25 percent of
Vista users are at dissatisfied. If we multiply that by Microsoft's
sales numbers, we get at least 5 million dissatisfied users.

But, we all know Microsoft's sales numbers are bogus... hugely inflated
because of channel stuffing as well holiday sales of XP systems that came
with a free upgrade coupon... so let's say that MS has sold, in actual
fact, roughly 10 million Vista licenses rather than the 20 million in
their press release. That still implies that at least 2.5 million users
are dissatisfied with Vista.

That's millions of users, Frank... even if I make lavish allowances for
statistical error and Microsoft's marketing hype. And it's quite clear,
based on what is out there in the blogosphere, that the percentage of
dissatisfied users is, in fact, much higher than 25 percent. I think you
would agree, if you were capable of being intellectually honest. But,
you're not. Neither is Urban, who lodged the same complaint. This post
is addressed to both of you.

Charlie, that's great voodoo math & FUD that only a true linux loser
troll could come up with.
Fact is you're just guessing and hoping but you're being totally
dishonest with us in this ng. You're not here to help anyone. You're
here simply because of your distaste for all things MS.
It's obvious you hate anything from MS.
Your creditability is nonexistent here.
I'm sure you're a real winner in your home base versus nothing more than
a whining linux troll here.
Time for you to head on home don't you think?

I can tell you exactly what Circuit City will say seeing as I'm employed by
them.

All the new pc's that are sold in the stores come pre-installed with
Vista...They do not carry any with XP installed anymore. Now, In saying
that, There is a chance that the store in question got an Out Of Program Pc
in that has Xp installed instead of Vista, Or a Pc that came back from
service with Xp on it.
The store Cannot just go in & take Vista off the Pc no matter if you stood
in the middle of the store and threw a hissy fit, it just isn't going to
happen so save that idea for a Walmart istore nstead.

You could always buy a copy of Xp and install it yourself, after making the
recovery discs from the partition on the Pc just now...In the off chance you
may want to go back to Vista.

You do have 30 days to return the Pc but expect to pay a 15% restocking fee.

Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Bought a nice Gateway PC with Vista on it at Circuit City. I'm so
utterly lost with Vista I don't think I'll ever climb out of the hole
it put me in. Mostly the filing/folder system, locations, etc. I've
lost so much data I'm going crazy.

What I'd like to do is to take the Gateway back to Circuit City and
ask for a replacement equivalent unit with XP on it before the 30-day
satisfaction guaranteed promise is still valid. I'd of course have to
pull off whatever documents I've already created, but I'm just lost
with Vista.

Whatya think? Worth a try?

Return it immediately! If they offer "satisfaction" guaranteed and you're
obviously not, then it doesn't take a degree in rocket science to figure
out what you should be doing. Maybe you should contact them first and find
out if you can wipe the drive. You might have things lurking there that you
don't want to end up in someone else's hands. (passwords to bank accounts
come to mind)

Love and Kisses,

Dell has a problem too with some customers ...

"Users force Dell to resurrect XP
Responding to customer demand Dell has restarted selling new PCs with
Windows XP installed on them.
The decision reverses a policy begun in January that meant Windows Vista was
the only operating system available on almost all new home machines.
The change came after Dell's feedback site was swamped with calls for the
return of the venerable software.
Now customers can opt for the Home or Professional version of XP on six
models of Dell machines.

Customer clamour

The four consumer versions of Windows Vista went on sale on 30 January and
since then many PC makers have sold most of their machines with the software
pre-loaded.
Since January Dell has been gradually phasing out the XP option on new PCs.
By March Dell only sold two models in its extensive range with the XP
operating system installed.
Dell is currently the second-largest PC seller in the world and has a 15.2%
share of the overall PC market. "

Do you read the news, Frank? I'm merely summarizing conventional
thinking about Vista. It's bombing out in the marketplace.
Fact is you're just guessing and hoping but you're being totally
dishonest with us in this ng. You're not here to help anyone.

Nonsense. I posted a helpful reply to the OP, suggesting he take his
problem to Gateway, because they are more likely to offer a solution than
is the retailer, which will simply give him his money back minus a fee.

Unlike yourself, I didn't try to tell him he was wrong in wanting to get
rid of Vista... is that what constitutes a helpful response, in your
world?
You're
here simply because of your distaste for all things MS. It's obvious you

I have been using MS products since the 1980s, Frankie-poo. I've had my
share of problems, but nothing significant enough to cause me to abandon
Windows as a platform. I only abandoned Windows very recently, and I did
so purely because of Vista. I am not willing to tether my PC to a
license server that monitors my system and is capable of disabling it. I
don't trust Microsoft any more than Microsoft trusts me. Moreover, I do
not believe Vista was released to meet the needs of Microsoft's
customers. I see it as a giant scam to force businesses and consumers to
spend money on a deeply flawed product with damn little to offer in the
way of real value. I will not allow myself to be manipulated that way.
Learning to use Linux is a nuisance that I would have preferred to
avoid... but the cost of doing business with Microsoft, in terms of money
and self-respect, has risen too high.

Million's of dissatisfied users? You are blowing smoke out of your rear

My new laptop came with Vista & i've not seen a single error message yet
or experienced any problems with hardware or software.
My only criticism is the amount of bundled rubbish HP add to the OS,
incl. Symantec, so I decided to move my copy of Ultimate across to this
new machine & do a clean install.
....but that's a criticism of HO not MS...why can't there be an option of
installing the bundled stuff?

Dell is starting to get the word about bundled crapware. Maybe it will
filter over to H.P. also.

There is nothing included with any manufacture red/assembled computer (by
the big names) that I have ever felt it worthwhile to keep.

Dell is NOT getting the word out. They are simply reacting to user
demands. Over the years it seems Dell and others have been limiting
crapware on their new PCs.

I'd say contact Gateway directly and tell them what you think of Vista,
and ask them what they can do to solve your problem. Millions of Vista
customers are thoroughly dissatisfied and disgusted, and it's important
for OEMs like Gateway to hear their comments. Enough people have
contacted Dell that they have gone back to selling systems with XP
instead of Vista.

You might also want to consider Linux,
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Before I bought my Vista machine (I've worked with all Microsoft OS since
DOS), I bought the book, The Missing Manual- Windows Vista. 800+ pages. I
read the first three chapters before starting up my Vista machine. The book
prepared me for the new style and some powerful aspects of Vista. Go buy a
good book on Vista and give Vista another try. I was skeptical of Vista and
have been holding out for a long time until this week when I bought it. Vista
has some great tools such as Search.

The worst things about a new machine is the Junk software (crapware) that
the manufacturer loads onb. I have Vaio and I'm still trying to clean up the
junk software to make the machine run smoother and to unclutter the desktop
and menus. I've rid about 70% of the crapware. (It's taken me about four
hours so far).

Overall, I think Vista is an improvement over XP (it also has a lot of eye
candy, too) and I think you should give Vista a try.

Whatever you decide, best of luck.

Why so many changes? Simple. This is by design.

All the changes, including widespread renaming of "default" folders and
apps, rearranging of menus with no rhyme or reason, and apparently for no
real purpose, confusing new graphic interface, are all necessary to make
Vista look sufficiently different from previous versions of Windows. This
only serves one purpose; to create the illusion that Vista is a new OS. Dig
deep enough and you can find dialogs and graphics leftover from Windows
3.11.
What is truly amazing is just how many people continue to fall for this old
and tired MS sales tactic.

Otherwise, people would see it for what it really is, just another XP
Service Pack, or as I prefer to call it, Windows 95 v4.0

Consider, no one will ever offer an explanation as to WHY all these
system-wide changes were implemented, much less needed. This is just another
example of how the Marketing Dept. is now the driving force at Microsoft.
