You are missing the point entirely. I wear a seatbelt every time I drive,
yet I have not had an accident in over 30 years. You are the one who is
"being so ostentatious". You may be happy going your merry way without any
AV protection, but that does not give you the right to tell others that it
is "okay" to do so themselves. Most of us live in the real world, where we
are intelligent enough to use the tools available to us. The point has
never been whether you have ever had a virus (and we have only YOUR word on
this), but your preaching that AV protection is unnecessary. You can take
all the chances you like...it is your right and your prerogative. But to
counsel others to take the same dangerous attitude as yours is irresponsible
at best. Not everyone is as "smart" as you claim to be. If you were truly
intelligent, you would have understood the current of this thread instead of
repeatedly posting "I have never had a virus...yada yada yada". I don't
care if you have ever had a virus. Personally, I hope you learn, the hard
way, the folly of your ways. But that is not important to this thread. You
should not tell neophytes that AV is not necessary. They are the ones most
vulnerable and most in need of protection. That way, they can learn more
about the wonderful device that is sitting on their desktop without the
frustration of being infected because of their inexperience.
In closing, I respect your right to do as you please, and to say what you
believe. But when what you post could cause someone else to adopt unsafe
computer practices, then you have overstepped the bounds of your "freedom".
There are people in this world who practice a form of thrill seeking called
train-dodging. They will stand on a track as a train approaches and will
wait until the last possible moment to jump out of the way of the train.
While they may enjoy this practice, if they were to try to convince children
to do the same, it would be unacceptable. That is what you have done with
your "preaching".
